sure! here’s one from Moon. it comes a little while after This scene.

“You’re a youkai. Aren’t you?” She suddenly asked.

The dog went very still, almost tellingly so, and slowly looked up, golden eyes solemn.

“I’ve heard of dog youkai before,” she revealed carefully. “That they’re huge compared to normal dogs and very smart.” Kagome folded her arms around her legs and rested her chin on top of her knees. Her expression fixed on the animal in neutral curiosity. The last thing she wanted to do was drive her savior away or make him angry. But she couldn’t just ignore the elephant in the room  (or really the dog in the room) any longer.

“I always thought a youkai would be a LOT bigger, and I thought they could talk too. But maybe I was wrong, or you have a reason to hide what you really are.

The dog said nothing. As expected. He simply watched her. After a moment, he tilted his head as though confused. The gesture was enough to make her doubt herself again, just a little.

“Or maybe I’ve been alone so long that I'm starting to lose it,” she sighed, glancing away uncertainly.

“...Either way, I guess it doesn’t really matter. Dog, wolf, youkai... You still went out of your way to protect me today.”

Kagome put aside her bowl and bowed low to him. Her hair falling aside and brushing her knees. “So thank you, really. I’m in your debt.”

There was silence from the other side of the fire then the sound of him rising and padding toward her, his claws tapping against the wood floor.

She froze up a little in surprise, something in her unnerved to have the back of her neck exposed to such a creature. She’d expected another snort or a soft bark. Why was he-?

He stopped beside her, then she heard the faint rattle of her bowl being moved.

Her head whipped up to see him eating her rabbit out of her bowl. His eyes fixed on her slyly and the corners of his mouth turned up in what could only be a smirk.

Kagome’s jaw dropped as the canine took another bite with a look of smug victory. And then she was doubling over again, amused and incredulous laughter forcing its way up.

The dog made a sound of confusion and paused to lean back away from her like she was crazy. Her laughter quickly snowballing into a howl of gaiety.

Maybe it was the stress of the day or just the silliness of the situation itself. But once she’d started she found it hard to stop. It felt good to laugh like that again after so long. Like the first breath of spring after a long cold winter.

Hi Gypsin, can you another part of your Moon/TDP wip fic?

Sure!  Here’s a scene a little earlier on in the story than the last wip. And you might recognize a bit of this from my 7-7-7 post

Wip 2 Moon (AKA The Dog Prince) 

When her impromptu houseguest finally started to wake up she’d just finished cooking and was in the middle of ladling out a bowl of fish stew for herself when there was a sudden low groan that made her whip her head toward the soft noise.

There was a tense moment between the two where their eyes met and held.

The dog was the one to break it, closing its eyes again and uttering a long groan. Then with a great effort, it stretched its legs and lifted its head a little, clearly intent on getting up. But the aspiration was short lived. In seconds he collapsed back to the furs with a heavy thump and a sharp breath of pain.

Finally, Kagome got up from beside the firepit to come check on him. But the instant she moved, snow white ears snapped in her direction and the dog glared warily, a low warning growl hovering deep in its throat.

The intensity of the look quickly had her raising her hands in mock surrender and her voice softening. “I won’t hurt you.”

That it seemed, was still the wrong thing to say. A much deeper growl erupted from the dog and filled the room, sending shivers down Kagome’s spine. But to her credit, she didn’t cringe. Instead, she slowly backed toward the door and opened it wide.

“You can leave if you want to big guy, I definitely won’t stop you,” she assured him breathily.

The animal’s growl lessened only slightly and he tried to rise up again. One shaking paw pushed against the ground but the other seemed incapable of bearing any support whatsoever. Soon the growl from before was replaced by labored breathing.

One of his back legs she already knew was badly broken. It looked like its front leg was in similar shape and she hadn’t realized it. Or else if not broken, possibly sprained.In seconds the creature shivered and fell back to the furs incapable of moving an inch. She sighed and closed the door most of the way before turning back to her glaring houseguest.

“Well… looks like you’re stuck.”

The growling picked up again.

It was official, she’d brought home a wild animal.

If his wolfish looks hadn’t clued her in from the start then the near constant feral growling was hammering the message in nicely now.

But strangely, she wasn’t scared of him.

There were worse ways to die than being mauled by a wild animal. Longer ways. And if she DID get killed at least she could see her family again.

Instead, she found the constant snarling presence was mostly annoying. She lived in a rundown one-room hut and every time she got within five feet of him the growls grew louder and he’d bare his teeth at her until she inevitably skittered away. This cut off accessibility to about half her house.  

From the moment he’d realized he wasn’t going anywhere, he’d hunkered down on the fur pile like a dragon on a treasure trove and watched her every move with all a dragon’s keen-eyed suspicion as she tried to go about her normal evening, storing leftovers and washing the dishes.

Beside him sat two untouched bowls she’d had to nudge toward him with a laundry pole. One filled with dried fish and the other with fresh water. So far they’d gone ignored.

It was only when she’d finished cleaning up and started to prepare her bedding on the furthest part of the room, far away from either him or the slightly ajar door that the growling stopped.

She looked over at him and he was still staring back. But it was quietly this time. His golden eyes considerably less angry while she stayed in one place as far away as possible.

A small sigh of relief escaped her lips and she crawled into bed and snuggled in for the evening. She’d started to worry he might growl at her all night.

“Goodnight then,” she murmured before turning in.

One last rumbling growl was her response. And then finally all was quiet.

He wasn’t there in the morning.

In fact, the only sign of him at all was a dent in the fur pile and two empty bowls.

Four days later a flash of white caught Kagome’s peripheral as she was walking through the forest checking her rabbit traps. But when she looked, nothing was there.

So she shook the encounter off as nothing without much thought and continued on her way.

Until it happened again, and again and again and again. Always from the corner of her eye or in fleeting glances and always in the forest.

At about the fifth or sixth time it happened she was fairly certain it was the same wild dog she’d saved days ago still wandering around the area. She wasn’t sure how he’d managed to walk away that first night or how he was getting around now with those injuries but a large white animal like that was rare in the first place and very hard to mistake even from a distance.  

So, not wanting to provoke him with her presence, she started laying her traps in a different area of the woods thinking that would be the end of it.

But regardless of the change, she still caught glimpses of white fur in the trees nearly everywhere she went. 

He was watching her. That much was apparent. Why, she had no idea. But the fact that he’d been able to leave her home after only a few measly hours that first night and that he was managing to keep out of sight this well after only a few days was a little terrifying. It made her wonder if maybe he wasn’t a dog or a wolf. But something else entirely.

But when a month went by and no harm befell her it stopped mattering quite so much. Kagome had repairs on her hut to make and fish to catch and rabbit traps to check and a garden to tend and clothes to patch… Life went on.

The white dog was a mystery, but so long as it didn’t give her a reason to worry she wasn’t going to.
