Prologue Tuesday 23 Spring
Word count: 339
It is the day before the flower festival. Moony is looking forward to having a day of no farm tasks. It’s been a crazy spring trying to get all the right stuff for the community centre. She thought that having other farmers would help speed the process up but so far it doesn’t feel that way. It isn’t that she dislikes the other farmers, she quite likes the company actually, but the workload doesn’t seem very fair. She is running from the town back to her farm late at night when she notices the new farmer Abby following her.
When they get near the bus stop Moony decides to run into the tunnel. Abby probably hasn’t seen it so it will be a cool place to take a break from the long walk. As expected, Abby follows her right into the tunnel. It’s very dark except for three small lights. Moony stops in the middle one and turns towards Abby, who is looking around, amazed at the new place she has discovered.
“What d’ya think?” Moony asks. Abby keeps looking around while getting closer to the other farmer. “I didn’t know such a place existed.” “Now you do.” Moony looks at the panel on the wall. It seems a battery pack can fit into this. She doesn’t have one on hand, so she turns back to Abby, who is still standing close to her under the light. Moony looks at her and thinks of the flower dance tomorrow. It would be fun to dance together. The two of them enjoy their private moment till Moony gets an eery feeling one of the other farmers is on their way to them. She runs out of the tunnel and back to the farm. And as expected, Eloiz is right at the bus stop. She walks past her and goes home, excited for the festival tomorrow. Abby and Eloiz also return to the farm. Maybe Moony should’ve walked Abby home instead of leaving her with Eloiz. Maybe then things would’ve gone differently.
