christmas has always been a particularly unpleasant time for sunny. as a child, he was lucky if his father even allowed his mother to give him a gift. any holiday where gifts were involved were solely reserved for minhee to the be center of their father's attention, and after their mother passed, that isolation only worsened for sunny. it isn't until he's integrated into carter's pack that he experiences holidays how they're supposed to be celebrated.
the calvin home is something out of a ralph lauren ad in a homestyle magazine. it's the type of cozy and well-coordinated decor full of warm, incandescent lighting that you would only see in christmas movies. it's a stark difference compared to the colorless minimal decor that would plague his family's home this time of year. here, it really felt like a home instead of a cold, sterile cage.
he almost gets lost in the moment, eyes trailing from stockings above the fire place to the soft glow from the obscenely large tree that nearly stretches to the ceiling. it isn't until he feels a hand resting on his lower back that his attention is pulled away from the tree. glancing up at cade, he realized his eyes weren't on him, but on a mistletoe hanging above them. his gaze flickers between the mistletoe and cade's face for a moment, heat rising to his cheeks when the pieces start coming together in his mind. he's only ever seen this tradition in movies or tv shows, he never thought it was something people actually did. ❝ i can't kiss you if you don't bend down ❞
