(We've been learning about Mesoamerican cultures in history lately so it's a perfect time for this theme! Aztec inspired civilizations here, mostly based on the concept of religion and sacrifice)
Tango kind of wishes people would stop sacrificing things in his name. He tried to send floods, and fires, and famine, but that just made them sacrifice /more/ people, how did that make sense?! Just because he was the sun god didn't mean he enjoyed death, especially those of humans.
He has his eye on one priestess though, who's been trying to change the other priests' minds about sacrifice. Pearl Moon, he thinks her name is, also happens to be very pretty. He's been communicating with her as of late, because he finally figured out how to make small signs appear, and she understands them. Pearl's even nicer up close, and she talks to him like a friend, a nice change of pace from the worship of others. And eventually, they grow to love each other.
Unfortunately, the priests don't agree with Pearl's views, and when they find out, their solution to this is to sacrifice her.
Tango couldn't stop them.
When it's over, Tango finds Pearl's shocked, wandering spirit, and tells her how sorry he is. Pearl doesn't care, she's just happy to see her godly lover for the first time. They'll figure out how to stop the sacrifices one day, but not yet.
First, Tango is going to ignore the humans for a while. He can just be him and Pearl, and he's going to take that opportunity. There's so much he wants to show her!
What happened was awful. He wants to make sure she knows there's still plenty of beauty in the world.
