“… Y’know, that’s not exactly what I’d call ‘encouraging’ t’ hear…” Ignoring the part of him that also wanted to mention how that was his line, of course. John merely sighed. “Look—bar’s pretty low ‘round a bloke like me. Just… agree y’ won’t go stabbing me outta nowhere and I can deal with the rest, yeah?”

It seemed like a pretty fair option in his head anyways.

Grumbling unintelligibly, he traced a pattern in the air, nothing really in particular that was useful for the moment, and then pointed. “We go this way.”

That… admittedly caught him off guard. Giving the guy a look as if he just spoke philosophy to a duck, he had—well… he had no real way to even begin.

“And? Hell makes y’ think you’re even anywhere close to privy ‘bout me own?” If it came out more annoyed than it probably should’ve, it wasn’t completely without reason now. “’less y’ give me a pretty good reason why someone like you’s gotta care ‘bout any of ‘em, think we’re better off dropping this conversation.”

A steady breath, a surprising shift despite his reaction to something more calm. Serious.

Laying faceup on the ground that, now that feeling returned to his back, probably had several bits and rocks digging themselves into his backend. At least the bit of discomfort and pain was a nice way to make sure he was still—well… existing.

Mostly due to the fact that apparently an ornery ex of the more scaled and horned persuasion decided to try and take a number out of him, but that was probably a given.

Groaning, John went ahead and did his best to try and sit up proper. Stretching, grunting over the sudden pop in his shoulders, looking over—and well, maybe he couldn’t help but stare just a little.

The number of hours that have passed while she has sat in the same chair while staring out of the window have gone unnoticed by Elsa. All she feels is the numbness of her grief and it’s seeming endlessness. Absentmindedly, she pulls the blanket draped over her shoulders closer. The night breeze makes the curtains dance and in her peripheral she sees movement but the same hopelessness that keeps her in this seat prevents her from looking towards it.

“I have helped many only for it to end in failure. Whatever help I offer, I wish for no one to think of me as a savior, though I have often been cast to play the role.” Unwillingly, for his goal was a measure of peace, and yet the universe always had other plans.
