more often than not it was no surprise to find her in situations less than ideal, it came with the territory of the work she did. it just so happened that she'd managed to slip on the mossy surface, having not realized just how slippery it is. she had no doubt she wouldn't been able to find purchase to pull herself back up but she quickly found herself being grabbed, keeping her from nearly falling over the edge. looking at him she rolls her eyes a little, letting out a huff of breath as she pulls herself back up alongside the aid of marc. ❛ i can handle myself, you know. i've found myself in much more treacherous situations than this. ❜ it's on her though, she should've been paying more attention and while she's thankful for his help, she's stubborn and lets sarcasm slide right off of her.

once she's stable on her feet again, she brushes off some of the dirt on her clothes and breathes in deeply. ❛ we've still got distance to make, it shouldn't take more than a few hours but if you want we can make camp somewhere. ❜

usually he'd let her fix her slip ups when it came to tricky terrain or rock climbing, trusting her ability to find her footing again but regaining an off-kilter balance that she had no hope of righting? he'd had to step in and grab her before she fell to her possible death or at least, an awaiting serious injury. he needed her in top shape and not battered. they still had a ways to go and slowing down now wasn't ideal, he'd rather keep going, keep pushing another few hours and just get it over with but the thought of camp and sitting down for a while sounded nice.

it felt as of recently more often than not he was covered in blood in some capacity, whether it be minor injuries or more grandiose ones that half of the time he wasn't sure how he survives. maybe it was sheer will, a determination that never quite dies out because he knew the city, more specifically hell's kitchen would need him. he however isn't surprised by the comment coming from jake, chuckling quietly and then wincing. he wouldn't be surprised if he's managed to bruise his ribs which would make sense why every movement of his body lead to a pain and a loss of breath. matt could practically feel the smirk that accompanied to his words, head tilting ever so slightly as he looked in his direction.

❛ only you would think i look good covered in blood, even after i got my ass nearly handed to me. ❜ shaking his head a little, he can still feel the dampness of his own blood, fresh and dripping from his busted bottom lip, rolling down his chin and dripping. using the sleeve of his suit to wipe it away, he lets out a heavy breath, lungs aching in a way he hasn't felt in some time. ❛ i'd look even better out of this suit and covered in blood probably. ❜ he isn't quite sure about it but no doubt to jake, he would enjoy the sight.

starting to undo the various zips and whatnot to get the suit off, gaze flicks up to matt's features, eyeing the bruises and cuts and blood that stains skin. yeah. he stands by his earlier statement, however unhinged it probably sounds. he looks good a little roughed up and bloodied, hair askew and sweat mixing with trails of blood. eyes then flick down to the busted lip. any sane person would avoid wanting to kiss someone with a busted lip to avoid tasting blood or hurting the other with its soreness and yet ... jake isn't sane.

hands pause their tugging of the suit to lean in and kiss him greedily, biting down on the split lip and causing more blood to mingle on their tongues. was that enough of an answer for him? it was him. and both. with a quiet growl, he breaks the kiss, though he doesn't move back. ❝ both. ❞

the last thing he expects is for ghost to suddenly grab him by the jaw, pressing at the joint which causes a slight pain, making him open his mouth. what he doesn't expect to go into his mouth is one of the gloves he'd been wearing, a moment in which he tries to protest until a hand covers his mouth. his nose scrunches with distaste, able to taste something on the fabric that wasn't particularly appealing. eyes narrow a little at his superior, a hand going to grab at his wrist in an attempt to pull his hand away so he could spit it out. when he said he wanted to be gagged, this wasn't on the list of possibilities he was thinking of. even if he wanted to respond to the man, he wasn't able to, making a muffled sound that only slightly like a ❛ no. ❜ he wasn't going to give up that damn easily, nor would he let ghost have the satisfaction of shutting him up. though he had to admit, being called a good boy did make his cheeks flush with some colour.

❛❛ actually, i'm pretty sure it is, ❜❜ john commented. at least for the health, anyway. taste wise remained to be seen. his youngest was surprisingly skilled at making healthy food. not that john's cooking was bad by any means, but he usually settled for the more simple things, like homemade burgers, steak, fish, that sorta thing. or in this case, toast.

he'd beg to differ ; he'd never really had to eat sammy's cooking before when he wasn't home like he had. dean wouldn't say his brother is good at making anything more than sandwiches and salads but john's welcome to try and plead his case. the toast was fine by him. taking another bite, he huffed lightly at john's words and slouched back in his chair. great. he was going to be still sitting here reading these books until the early hours of the morning at this rate. he wished he knew someone he could call that could possibly have an inkling as to what they were hunting.

if only sam was still around. he'd have figured it out by now, probably. but he can't ring him up. not while he's actually trying to make a life for himself outside of hunting and away from them. ❝ there's only a few books left. if it's not in those, then we're kinda dead in the water. ❞ only option left would be to go to a library and hope it's in some old dusty book forgotten in the back somewhere.

Out of sight, Phantom downs a vial of something that isn't stable or courteous like a rich intoxicant, but it does burn — like cold acid all the way down. Not a good sensation, nothing like the soothing stroke of whisky or absinthe, even worse than straight-grain Everclear. This light blue liquid rips down the windpipe like cat claws and rusty fish hooks. Lahudsiix tends to do that. Sliske knows he won't sleep for four to six days now with it in his system. It triggers just about every chemical pertaining to the flight or fight response into overdrive. It was a chemical synthesized for warfare by his people. If Slisaeqiothske wasn't already documented as a hair trigger with his piss-poor anger management and propensity to be a berserker, this put him right into the swing of it. Every blood vessel opens, his senses are tuned to the point of overstimulated pain, and his lungs burn. ⸻ He does what he always has done; cause problems and solve them as soon as he determines them. It's a damn blessing he's just a contractor, otherwise, half the shit he did would incur several security and safety briefs. He is an unknown entity that not many, if any, have specialization or experience in fighting. There are probably tales — of his many names and what he does, but nobody really gets out alive anyway — unless he's in a good mood. A sick sense of judge, jury, and executioner just comes with this line of work.

Ten minutes dance by and after all the fracas goes silent and serene in the dark, translucency hits like an accurate round to the head and Sliske wedges his elbows against the brick wall since there is nothing left to kill. He overestimated how much Lahudsiix was needed for such a low amount of targets. Now he's reeling a little bit on the trip. "Fuck." He calms himself by digging his nails into a wound, sobering himself, and entering the dry heave stage where coughs taste like metal — liver and blood pudding. At least there's enough adrenaline pumping through his wrought body to get his 'contractually assigned ' Lieutenent with a ruddy-fucked leg back to exfil.

He ambles unhurriedly back out to the decrepit car, and there's a rough 'oi' from his lips. Sliske prowls out of the cover of dark and he sounds worse than before — and quite off. Like he's holding himself back, quaking like an out-of-breath junkie. Even his outstretched hand shakes. "All done. All through." Looming over Ghost, Sliske's voice is hoarse and raw even in the dark. "— Won't 'ave to carry you, will I? Doesn't matter if I gotta. Hold onto that flask for a bit but c'mon 'fore I throw up." His veil is damp from a gross mix of humidity and sanguine, also askew but still does its purpose well enough. One day he'd let Riley ask.

all falls quiet and death emerges from the chaos and shadows, tall and menacing despite the tremor in his hand. it doesn't escape his notice but he puts it down to adrenaline and the aftermath of fight. even the best were shaken up when pumped full of adrenaline, jittery and on edge. he has no doubt in his mind that he finished the job and took out the rest of the threats that he failed to eliminate. for all his achievements and success on missions, even ghost fell short sometimes. he was fortunate he had phantom here to clean up the loose ends.

comment of keeping the flask for now has ghost snatching it back up and shoving it into an empty pouch for now, until he wants it back. with a grimace, he slides off the bonnet of the car and back to his feet ... somewhat. leaning back against it for a moment as pain shoots through his leg, he pushes himself off the car and onto his feet, putting his weight on his good leg to avoid stressing the wound more.

❝ i'll be fine. ❞ he grunts out, determined and stubborn to stand on his own two feet and get himself back to exfil without the help of the other. he won't be a burden to someone else and if shit happened, he expected phantom to get the fuck out of there and not wait around for him. ❝ let's go. ❞ he nods in the direction they need to go and limps somewhat in that direction, clenching his jaw against the discomfort it causes and pushing through it.

despite the distraction, part of him wonders what phantom meant by that ... ' but c'mon 'fore i throw up ' ... had he taken something before going in there? 'cause he can't image the guy having a weak stomach. ❝ you good? ❞ he questions after ten minutes of silence, the question nagging at the back of his mind. he wants to make sure phantom isn't also going to be a problem. bad enough he's got a fucked up leg. he doesn't need phantom passing out on him or some shit.

grinning, he looks over ethan behind glasses, a lit cigar between fingers as he brings it up to his lips, taking a puff and allowing the smoke to leave through nostrils. he loved that ethan was able to look through him, read him like a open book, it made things all the more fun. his head tilts a little as he stands there, watching the man before him before flicking his cigar off to the side, allowing it to slowly burn out with no longer having a use for it. ❛ oh ethan ... of course, there's always a catch but you know that already. that's why i like you, you don't take no bullshit. ❜ pushing himself up off the wall, he takes steps to get closer to the other, eyes wandering up and down his body as he circles him, something he would still do even if he wasn't wearing his glasses.

as he assumed, he'd wanted something from this talk. why he still indulged him and went to him when he asked, he's not sure, but then ... who else did he have to talk to right now? he was a wanted man and going out, going back to his family, risked the BSAA finding out where he was and taking them back to hq to do god knows what to him. he shuddered at the very thought of that, so what could he do except lay low for now? even though he desperately wanted to see his daughter again.

a hiss was sucked in as teeth nipped at his neck, however licking up the blood was the last straw to his patience, pulling away and rubbing at the sore area, covering it from his hungry eyes. ❝ if you want my blood again, you're not having it. find it somewhere else. some dead deer or somethin'. ❞ why he was so insistent on biting him and licking at his blood he didn't know. surely with the mold infecting his body, he'd taste foul to karl, but it seemed not. it was almost like it made him taste better to him, which he couldn't understand.

alice didn't expect that cassian would be the type to do something like that, but she was relieved when it was confirmed. she could appreciate someone who was consistent. as the box was placed in her hand, her fingers closed around it. she felt the velvet exterior as she opened her eyes. she looked down and slowly flipped open the lid. as she saw the pendent, her lips formed a quiet 'oh.' she hadn't told cassian about her abilities, and for a moment she wondered if he knew anyway, but she was sure she'd been careful. it must just be a coincidence, but she felt recognized in a way she hadn't expected. she hoped she hadn't seemed too surprised as she looked back up, smiling. "thank you, cassian. will you put it on me?"

to know he'd been right in his observation pleased him immensely, glad that alice liked her gift. it brought a smile to lips, giving a nod and taking the box from her to remove the necklace. ❝ of course. ❞ undoing the clasp, shifted a little closer and placed the necklace on her, fastening it in place and adjusting it to sit nicely against her chest. it's only then that he shifts away a little, to see it on her better. it looked nice on her. ❝ i'm glad you like it. i wasn't entirely sure if you would but you do seem to enjoy winter and the snow. ❞ so he'd made a guess.

xior's kingdom was not short of violence, dragons tended to be territorial creatures, protected what was theirs and xior was no different from the full-fledged dragons. he would protect what was his, what he cared for. wiping the blood from his blade with his gloved hand, he moves to slide it back into its sheath and lets out a deep sigh. eyes flick to look at the lord, slowly an amused look forming to features as he tilts his head back, properly observing him now as he listens. ❛ my enemies are those who are foolish enough to challenge me. as you can see, no ordinary man is fit enough to defeat me in battle. ❜ and anyone who did try and fight him would be an idiot, he's much older than he looks and has a lifetime of experience of battle.

though their past was steeped in conflict and their kingdoms had been at odds with one another nearly a century until recently, he had always respected how they defended their own to the death. it was a noble trait to have, to be so fiercely protective, and cassian could admire that in same trait in the dragon that stood before him. it was why he was here, to ask something of a favour, should xior wish to indulge him in it. ❝ i'd like to try my hand, if it wasn't to the death. ❞ he had no plans to die today and he certainly didn't wish to kill the other in combat but a friendly duel? that he could get behind.

he doesn't envy steve ; to be working here in a place that was popular for the high schoolers and facing old classmates day after day was not something he'd wish on anyone really. he'd decided to try his hand at photography for the local newspaper and honestly the gig there wasn't much better but at least he wasn't in public view like steve was. he felt bad for him, especially in a uniform like that, though honestly he can't say that steve isn't rocking it.

he blinks out of his thoughts, brain catching up with what steve had just said. it was a punishment from his dad? ❝ wait, your dad made you do this job? yikes. i'm so sorry. ❞ that was even worse. at the question of if he anything, he glances at the choices, thinking it through. ❝ uh ... yeah, i'll have an ice cream. why not. um ... i'll taaaake ... the chocolate pudding, please. ❞ he decides after a moment of deliberation. of course, he came here for more than ice cream but why not grab one while he was here? ❝ i got a thing at the local newspaper and i could do with a treat honestly after that hellhole. ❞

as the bandaid is placed over the gash on her arm, she winces a little at the pain that comes from it but it isn't as bad as it was when he placed the cotton ball against it. she's taken aback by his teasing, cheeks burning with a flush of embarrassment, she didn't expect him to tease her at all but in an odd way ... it's nice hearing it come from someone besides steve harrington for once. clearing her throat, she looks back over at peter with a smile. the small moment of peace was something she's wished for in a long time, in weeks actually. ever since finding out about what ... horrors there were out there, nothing has ever quite been the same.

❛ what makes you so sure i hurt myself to spend time with you ? ❜ it was by pure coincidence that she brushed up against something hard enough to cause the wound, movements in a rush and not fully paying attention. letting out a chuckle, she brushes hair behind her ear and looks at him for a moment, eyes wandering as she took in his features. she's always liked peter, found him to be ... cute but also charming, maybe it was because he wasn't like every other teenage boy who thought they were all it. that tried to get into every girls metaphorical pants to have another notch on their belt. ❛ nurse peter was very kind to help me, i'll have to call on him again if something happens. ❜ teasing back, she gently nudges him with her elbow in his side, even scooting a bit closer to him. ❛ genuinely, thank you. i really appreciate your help, peter. ❜

though it wasn't the ideal way to spend time, he is glad that he'd been passing by to lend her a hand. not that she couldn't do it herself, but it gave him an excuse to be in her company for a little bit of time. and thankfully it wasn't that big of an injury. a few days and it'd be fine to take the band aid back off and let it air out and heal. her question gained a mocking shocked look, as if scandalised by what she'd said. nancy? clumsy? wow.

❝ are you admitting that you are just that clumsy? the only one allowed to be that clumsy around here is me. ❞ part of him wondered what she'd be doing to have gotten a cut like that but that wasn't really any of his business, not unless nancy wanted to tell him. the tease back made him chuckle, giving a nod. ❝ course. what are nurses for? nurse peter will always be here to help you with whatever scrapes you get. though i do recommend being more careful in the future. i might run out of band aids at this rate. ❞

A genuine warm smile shows up on his lips when Foggy says that, keeping their foreheads pressed together and his hand on his friend's cheek. Matt tilts his head just a bit to press the softest kiss he could manage to his lips, eyes shut. "I'm not just into you..." Another kiss as he presses himself just a little closer. "I'm really into you. I was hoping you'd do something like this." And honestly? If they end up pushing their beds together tonight? He won't be mad about it at all. He kinda likes the close contact.

"So... if you ask me to be your boyfriend, I may just say yes." He says with a grin. "Maybe." Hey, he sobered up a little before, but that didn't mean he didn't spend most of the night drinking way too much beer. And all he wants now? Are kisses and cuddles.

it had been a leap into the unknown and he'd stupidly risked his friendship but in the end, it'd turned out to be the best decision he'd made and he's glad he took the leap now. he'd probably still kick himself for being so reckless later but at least it had a happy ending. chuckling at his words, thinking they were in part a joke, his laughter quickly died off with the realisation that he was being serious. oh. they were really going into this right now. it was probably not the best time to be having this conversation, he's not sure he's even going to fully remember this later, but he hopes he will and he hopes he won't wake up to this being a dream.

❝ ... will you be my boyfriend then? ❞ he asked tentatively, still unsure but he'd already taken the first leap. the rest didn't seem so scary, not now that matt was here in his arms, kissing him like this. going home now sounded so good, to get out of the cold and into the warmth where he could just lay with him for a while until they fell asleep.
