Moonlight & Fang Ch. 2...

The forest before me seems ever endless, and verdant. Its canopy, an amalgamation of Hemlock, Redwood, and Spruce. The twinkling lights that burst through their crowns allowed for disorderly herbs to grow in the soil below. Quiet vines embraced many trees, and a potpourri of flowers, which were seen occasionally, enhanced the otherwise unchanging backdrop.

A mishmash of beastly noises, most belonging to small creatures, reverberated through the air, and were out of sync with the sound of the wind blowing gently through the trees. There was an otherness to these woods. More so than the tales and legends whispered through the village.

Tales of a Hag granting your heart's desires for a price. That price being a curse placed on your eternal soul. Some curses even passed down through the generations, wreaking havoc to entire bloodlines. 

It is also said that a wolf prowls these woods. Guarding its secrets and devouring any man who so dares to trespass upon it. Their bodies have been either reclaimed by the woods or found in pieces skirting the village's walls. 

So why am I so drawn to them? Why do I catch whiffs of an intoxicating scent like I’ve never smelt before on the wind, beckoning me to venture forth and find its source.

For months I have been tormented by the faint smell of lavender, tuberose and honey. I could ignore the pull no longer. I needed to know who this delicious scent belonged to. Myths be damned. If I am to die in these cursed woods, then so be it. For I know somehow, some way, my destiny lies waiting beneath its dark canopy.

Allowing my senses to take the lead, I wandered. The mouthwatering scent growing stronger with each step I took until I came upon what looks to be a clearing in the trees ahead. Bright sunlight calling to me like a beacon. 

As I step out of the shade, my eyes lock onto a set of amber orbs that are already set on mine. I allow my eyes to feast upon the beauty that is before me. Never have I seen a woman as beautiful as the one that stands mere feet away. 

She is otherworldly, to say the least. Shorter in stature than the maidens I’ve grown accustomed to in the village. With curves, covered in a blood red fabric, that have me thinking the most sinful of thoughts. Her skin looks as if it is forever sunkissed. Her hair is full of wild curls in shades of auburn and black.

I am so stricken by her beauty that I almost miss her speaking to me.

“...brings you to my humble manor, deep in the woods?”

Moonlight & Fang Ch. 7

Here it is. The final chapter of my dark/gothic/fantasy/abo Little Red Riding Hood retelling.

In a land long forgotten and plagued by a devastating curse, the delicate threads of magic begin to weave a tale of redemption and restoration. As the powers of enchantment stir, a newfound balance emerges. The people, who had suffered the most under the Hag's malevolence, felt the soothing embrace of peace descending upon their weary hearts. 

Little Red’s pack of six brave souls reveled in the triumph of fulfilling their destined purpose, their names now written amongst the stars. A legend to be passed down through the generations.

Time passed, and as they grew older, their lineage blossomed. Six children emerging into the world. No longer burdened by the haunting shadows of the past, they found solace in the tranquil haven, where the promise of peace stretches far and wide.

Free to roam its depths and embrace the wonders of nature. They lived a life without the shackles of uncertainty. For the tides of darkness had been forever banished.

Moonlight & Fang Ch. 6

Bucky

You could say my life has been nothing more than a series of unfortunate events. Hard to believe I’m sure as I was born into Royalty. Prince James Buchanan Barnes III. Bucky to my friends and family. 

I unfortunately don’t remember much of my time spent within the castle. What I do remember is how fiercely my mother loved me. It drove my father mad. Said she was spoiling me and I would never become a strong King if she kept coddling me so. But she didn’t care.

It was on the eve of my 11th birthday that my misfortune began. I had snuck out of the castle with my best friend Steven. We were only just exploring the woods and practicing our fighting skills with fallen branches, like any boys would do. When a group of bandits happened upon us.

They had us surrounded. No doubt knowing exactly who they had come across. I managed to distract them enough for Stevie to get away. His mother needed him and I would be beside myself if anything happened to my best friend. 

I fought with everything I had in my small body. It just wasn’t enough and the bandits made away with me into the night.

Not before leaving a parting gift for my fathers guards to find. My left arm. Complete with my family crest signet ring. I can only assume that they presumed I was dead. It was of no matter at the time as the bandits loaded me onto a cart and traveled as far away from the kingdom of Brook Lain as they could get.

Moonlight & Fang Ch. 5

Ari

For as long as I can remember, I have always forged my own path. A lone wolf. Going against the traditions ingrained in me as a pup. 

It’s not that I don’t enjoy the company of other wolves. My knot can more than attest to that. I just like the freedom to come and go as I please. Living in the shadows, affords me a means of which to protect himself and help other supernaturals, born and bitten, get to safety when their lives are in danger. 

Having safely delivered a young Firbolg back into the arms of their mother. I was left to my own devices once more. I had been exploring the vast forest of what was rumored to be cursed land. 

These woods may be dark and ominous, but I felt an ease wash over me as I crossed through its threshold and set foot upon its soil.

My wolf, who is normally pacing back and forth, unable to settle, is oddly calm the deeper I go. A steady glow in the distance catches my attention. As the wind makes its way through the trees, it carries with it a myriad of scents, coming from the direction of the light. 

Four distinct scents to be precise. One of which has my wolf perking up, wanting to play. I can smell that the scents are mingled together. Three males mixed in with a very strong female. Most likely Alpha’s and their Omega. Mates. Pack. I should turn away and go on about my business; but my stubborn wolf is pushing me forward. 

I watch the group from the shadows. The female’s beauty is unparalleled. Draped in black, like myself, from head to toe. A perfect matching set, if I do say so myself. I’m not one for sharing though. So I will have to challenge the head alpha. 

Too bad there doesn't seem to be one. They naturally follow her. What a powerful Omega she must be. I can sense she is much more than just a wolf and I’m dying to know what that is.

Moonlight & Fang Ch. 4

Sy

I will always remember that day in graphic detail. The one in which my life forever changed, in multiple ways.

My younger brother Ethan and I, had set out that day, to test our bravery by traversing the cursed woods on a full moon. 

The forest was large, foggy, and ancient. Silent branches hung from many a tree, and a mishmash of flowers, which grew in a sprinkled and disorderly fashion, contrasted against the otherwise uniform scenery. A hodgepodge of sounds, most of which were prowling animals, added life to the forest, and were strangely synchronized with the sounds of several ravens in the distance.

At some point we got separated. The sounds of the forest were playing tricks on us. Pulling us in different directions. Several times I could hear a wolf’s howl in the distance. Although I was unable to pinpoint its origin. As each time it sounded as if it came from a different location.

All I knew was that I needed to find my brother. While searching for him, another howl ripped through the air. This one clearly in distress. Quickly followed up by growls and the distinct yell of a man in pain. 

I sprinted towards where I figured the sound to be emanating from. Desperate to find my brother alive. Caring not if he was injured. Wounds could be healed.

The trees opened up and I found myself in a clearing. Not a soul was in sight and the sounds of the forest had gone eerily silent.

I stepped forward to investigate and what I found had my stomach sinking.

Selene

Blossoming fields spanned the entirety of the land, broken up by a gently flowing river with several branches in the distance. In the heart of the green grasses, colorful flowers peeked out above and dazzled entire bee queendoms and brightly colored beetles. Above them birds soared high and far while a group of deer ran through the field in search of food or a place to rest.

A serene panorama with soft, floral scents accentuated by the warmth of a late spring's sun. Fortunately unbroken by the wispy clouds drifting by, provided any wolf with a perfect opportunity to rest both the body and the mind. The sight at night, both with a full moon and without, would certainly be worth waiting for.

But that was not why I was in the meadow today. I was foraging for herbs, which is a typical occurrence, for a tonic I needed to replenish. In doing so I seem to have stumbled upon a stranger wandering my land. Looking lost.

Get Ready Heathens

Tomorrow you meet Little Red 😈

10 years I have spent isolated in these woods. Satiating my lust for blood by divesting unworthy men of their useless voice boxes with my teeth and bathing in the warmth of their blood.  It has become a rather lonely existence as of late. My only true company being that of my raven Othello and his ever changing conspiracy. I think the feathered fellow may be immortal. Or possibly some sort of demi-god.  For once I’d like for an Alpha or man of worth to stumble upon my home and be able to feed all of my needs. It doesn't have to stop at just one either. A have quite the voracious appetite.
