THREE WEEKS

THREE WEEKS had changed more in his life than six months in New Paradiso. His days had already become a strict routine of coffee, visiting his companies’ sites in the city, and paperwork. The last thing he expected was to run into his ex-lover during a coffee shop and for said ex to be pushing a toddler in a stroller. It hadn’t taken Malcolm long to put the two together: Rhys’ abrupt disappearance from his life and a pup that couldn’t be more than a year old. Malcolm nearly fainted as Rhys, in all his usual awkwardness when it came to delivering bombshell news, all but jazz hands his way through as he told the older werewolf said toddler was their son.
Three weeks in wouldn’t change or fix everything between them. He wasn’t angry at Rhys, more angry at himself than anything. Maybe if he had actually asked why the other had brought up the topic of kids that night he wouldn’t have missed out on supporting the other through his pregnancy. Maybe he would’ve been there when his son was born. He tried to tell himself it was something that he was here now, with Desmond climbing over him like a jungle gym, using him for leverage as he toddled around the living room.
What mattered now was he was here and Des was a healthy and happy boy. 8 pounds, 3 ounces, at birth and all ten little fingers and toes. Beautiful in every way Malcolm could have hoped a child of his would be. He already knew he’d be one of those men to carry around every photo Rhys had shared with him. He had fallen in love the moment he first held his son. For now though, he’d focus on moments like these; Rhys watching him play with their pup from his spot on the couch. The younger werewolf had been quiet most of the evening, no doubt trapped in his own thoughts which was from Malcolm’s experience with Rhys, wasn’t a good thing. ❛ Penny for your thoughts, darling? You’ve been awfully quiet. ❜ He said, maneuvering his bulk to sit up, Des giggling as he crawled into his father’s lap. Malcolm placed a soft kiss to the little boy’s head with a smile.
