tessa! hi~ it’s @moonlit-han. so, to quickly answer your question as to why drunk-dazed has such a satisfying chorus:
1. the key it’s in (or the major equivalent, at least) is fairly common to upbeat songs. i haven’t done a chord analysis of it yet and don’t quite have perfect enough pitch to tell you the key right off the bat;;;
2. the repetitive nature of the melody, particularly on “dazed, dazed, dazed,” is reminiscent of actually being dazed, you know? going round and round? (also a carousel!) so then when the melody spikes, it makes you feel like you’re popping out of a daydream or something.
3. also, “dazed, dazed, dazed” and the last phrase of the chorus have the same movement between pitches. it’s a half step (like ti, do—finishing a scale), so your ear hears it as resolution after resolution after resolution to the tonic (first note of the scale). that’s inherently satisfying. just play an incomplete scale or don’t resolve a chord progression and watch musicians squirm. plus, the interval between those two parts is a fifth, making it easier to lead into a different key and also relate the two. it’s pretty cool!
idk how much musical knowledge you have, so i won’t go into more specifics, but let me know if you want to know more and i’ll send a lil music rant lol. hope this helps and makes sense! have a good evening~
