Moonlit Walk | Jack and Lillian

Lillian sat on the dock, her toes dipping in the crystal clear water as she stared up into the night sky. Taking in a deep breath of the fresh air, she began to count the stars: admiring the constellations. She often thought about the stars and the heavens above her, wondering where they came from, where they started, and where they ended. It crossed her mind that the stars could be the souls of those who passed, living on in the after life. It brought a smile to her lips, thinking that the end could possibly be a new beginning. It gave her hope.

Standing up, Lillian let out a sigh, wanting to explore this new found land. It seemed as though her father was not leaving any time soon, so there would be no harm in getting acquainted with her surroundings. Her bare feet felt a small chill as she walked across the dock to the path leading into town. The warm breeze felt nice on her skin as she walked past unfamiliar buildings, heading to one in particular: the Blacksmith.

Jack Abshire was one of the first people Lillian met in the Kingdom of Galendan. She didn’t know much about him, just that he was very charming and very good with his siblings. It was admirable how he took care of them at such a young age. She knew many men who would just abandon their family, or crack under the pressure, but Jack was different. Lillian liked different.

After a short while, she finally reached her destination. Although there was a sign on the door stating it was closed, Lillian knew Jack would still be inside, working away. Entering the threshold, she smiled when she discovered that she was right. Jack had his back turned, concentrating deeply on what he was doing. He didn’t notice her enter.

Leaning on the door frame, Lillian said, “Hello, stranger. Do you mind taking a break to join me on a walk? You can give me a tour." She bit her smiling lips, waiting for a response.
