too much distance... || closed starter for @moonsrush continued from here
His treatment was still, or even more, hostile. Kay went silent; the talkative, energetic, and vibrant Kay was reduced to nothing but a silent mess. He didn’t feel welcome, but that was expected. Even though he knew the place well, he felt like a foreigner, an intruder, and his chest felt heavy and tight.
Kay stepped inside, removing his facemask and pulling down the hood of his sweatshirt. He didn’t know what to do, where to sit, or how to stand. The only way he could control his uneasiness was to take a deep, grounding breath and watch the other man enter as well.
"I called you," he began. "I also sent you a text," he added. "You didn’t respond, so I assumed you were busy." Lies. He didn’t assume anything; he knew exactly what happened. Daphne didn’t answer his calls or respond to his texts on purpose because it had become a recurring issue, but he still lied. "I wanted to know if it was okay to visit you since I was abroad and..." He paused. "Well, I also told you I was going to be on a business trip, but I think you missed that message too," he said with a stupid, oblivious smile. Another lie, trying to excuse the other’s behavior as if it weren’t obvious, but it made it a little less hurtful. "Maybe it wasn’t a good idea to come," he muttered. "You didn’t answer for a reason, and now I’m here being a nuisance when you must be tired. I..." he said, making long pauses in the middle of his sentence and gesturing toward the front door to imply he could leave if the other wanted him to. Kay completely dismissed his own tiredness; he had been asleep in the hallway just moments ago, but he still put Daphne first.

It was a standing 'date' every Friday to get together, sometimes it was at a coffee shop in the morning, other times it was at their combined favorite bar in the afternoon. This time was the later, and Hikaru had wound up arriving first. Not that he was terribly surprised, he was notorious for arriving earlier than necessary. He didn't have the time blindness other's had... instead he was hyper aware of how time passed, and generally felt frozen until the time to leave came.
Regardless, he ordered the two of them their usual, waiting for his buddy to arrive... so when a female voice greets him instead, Hikaru can't help but to frown. While it was true that the woman was beautiful, it did nothing to stir the same feelings of fluster as Kimun did...
"Sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but I am waiting for someone, so-" "Oh that's okay! We can talk while you wait, right?"
God he hated people that didn't get the hint. Frowning some, Hikaru leaned into the bar as the woman leans closer to him, growing more offended at the invasion of his bubble than anything else. "I mean... I suppose... but-"
"Oh! Wonderful, I'll have whatever he's having-" she states, slipping into the spot that had been clearly designated for Kimun.

Oh Aubrey was nervous... it made sense, considering not only was she really not in the dating scene, but this was a blind date with somebody she didn't even know. She had been reassured by Erebus over and over again that this would be fine, even had a bit of help dressing up and doing her makeup just so. She looked beautiful, she had to admit that much... but looking beautiful and exuding confidence that she was beautiful were two different things entirely, and she certainly had none of the confidence to do the later.
She didn't even know what this guy looked like.
Arriving at the restaurant 20 minutes early, she saddled up to the waiting bar, opting for a simple glass of water as she waited. As time went on, she grew more and more restless, silently hoping the man simple no called no showed. That would be humiliating, yes, but it would at least spare her. Glancing around, she tried looking for whoever it was that was supposed to be her date...
And met the gaze of somebody just walking in. Finding herself holding his gaze for a second too long, she visibly flushed and looked away. There was no way this was him... he was far too handsome to be her blind date.
