Summary: The BAU forgot his birthday (how the fuck is that canon by the way?) and you make it better because of course you do

Pairing: Spencer Reid x GN!Reader

Spencer cared, of course he cared, he wouldn't be able to do his job if he didn't care. But there was a voice inside his head that made him wish he didn't care, well more that wished he didn't care that no one cared for him.

He came into the BAU, dreading no one would make a big deal out of today. He knew Penelope would probably do something for the big day, he just hoped it didn't mean big bashes and banners.

But nothing. Zilch. Absolute radio silence.

No one wished him a happy birthday, there was no cheeky remark from Derek about how he's 'getting old' and 'he's gonna be needing help pissing soon', no tight squeeze from Penelope, no well wish from Emily, not even a smile from JJ and Rossi.

Hotch didn't even leave his office that day.

It got to him, a lot, obviously it would get to anyone but he felt like pure shit until you rang.

You had been away for a meeting, working at the BAU means you practically spend every day with Spencer but obviously the one day you couldn't make it was the day of his birthday.

He picked up the phone instantly, "Hey,you," Your voice instantly making him happier by the second. "Happy Birthday, lover"

"Thank you," He chuckled lightly, "I missed you this morning"

Guilt-ridden, you respond with "I know im sorry, i miss you more, I'm hoping the team is making up for the lack of celebration I'm doing!"

Spencers heart rate quickened, "Yeah they are, I'm waiting till we get a case so hopefully I'm not the point of focus anymore"

Spencer carried on lying until you both hang up. He felt even worse after the call, the first time in his life Spencer felt worse speaking after to you.

You were in the car when Penelope rang, asking about your ETA, when you mentioned a thank you for the cupcakes.

"What cupcakes?" She questioned you, genuine confusion in her tone.

"The ones for Spencer?"

"I didn't give Spencer cupcakes? Did he want cupcakes, I'll get him some if he wants them! It's no problem"

"No- No it's fine don't worry, I just got mixed up"

"Oh," Disappointment both filled you and Penelope.

Spence lied to you, but they had all forgotten his birthday.

You had entered the BAU with a bag full of presents, eyes on you as you entered the building. Heading straight for Spencer's desk placing the bag in front of him, kissing his forehead ever so lightly, "Happy Birthday"

His eyes filled with tears, "Thank you, I'm sorry I knew you'd be disappointed if I told you the truth"

"Woah loverboy, getting lucky tonight?" Derek smirked from the opposite desk.

"You only turn thirty once?" You shrug.

Emily immediately lifted her head off the evergrowing pile of files she was working on, "We missed your birthday? Why didn't you tell us?"

"I didn't think it was that important"

"CAKE! I BROUGHT CAKE!" Penelope comes screaming in from her office. "Spencer Reid you rubbed out your birthday off my calendar?"

JJ, and Hotch both came out of the commotion, Rossi came out at the sound of cake, "You guys, you don't have to do this" Spencer stated, sitting upright as he saw the big 30-candle lit dripping onto the icing.

Your eyes glistened"Yes we did, we all care, Spence, we will always care"

Your home was homey, green walls and dim litted rooms, it made you in awe of it every-time you walked through the door. It made you smile even more when you realise your boyfriend lived in your dream home without you ever knowing.

You and Spence were close before you finally got together, you two were the best of friends, you sat across from him for 3 years feeling sorry for yourself as he talks about a girl he kissed, or a guy he liked wallowing in self pity, wishing it was you he chose to care for, and wish was there when he awoke. And finally your wish came true. And it had been the best years of your life.

Both of you had the day off, you decided to spend finishing up research and baking while Spence had took himself on a walk to the bookstore on the corner before he got groceries. Chocolate fudge cake, with sprinkles of course, was a favourite of Spencer’s so you decided to make it regularly, and any left overs were greatly appreciated by the rest of your team, which is what you were making now. Spencer and you were insanely alike, both of you loving doing your own thing but in the company of each other, more like shared silence, but both of you still needed recharge time and you both have your own ways of doing it.

Their was cocoa powder all over the kitchen, and cake mix on your face, but with the sound of music humming from the record player throughout the appartement, nothing could diminish such a good mood. With birds lightly chirping from the gutter above the window, and the sun shining on the ever growing collection of books, it was a perfect day.

As if on queue, Spencer walked through the door as soon as you thought of perfect, holding bags of groceries and a smile on his face. “Isn’t this a sight for sore eyes” he gushed, heat rushing to your cheeks, as he placed the groceries on the counter placing a kiss to the top of your head.

“Well hello” You smiled towards him, he wore a light washed pair of jeans with a thin jumper along with his shirt and tie, with the glasses that make you smitten, “,this should be done in about 40 minutes”

The glow on his face was nothing but appreciation, an appreciation of you, and your love for him, “I love you” He smiled, a thank you from him.

“I didn’t even do anything”

“Yeah, but you’re here and so i love you” He responded, your heart full.

The piano started, from a track you both adored, ‘Hooked on romance’ from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra filled the room. You looked him in the eye, “Dance with me?”

“Dance with yo-, I can’t dance, i can barely stand without falling” He chuckled, you smacked his shoulder lightly, pleading with him with your eyes, “Fine but you can’t judge me.”

His fingers lightly grasped yours before he pulled you into him to rest your head on his shoulder, as you swayed with him to the song, before he pulled away from you, holding on to your hand to spin you around before pulling you back to him. Your head instantly rested onto him again,

“I feel like i’m stuck to you, like i cant think of my life without you” You whispered.

“Then don’t, stop acting like you’ll become a ghost of my memory, i’m here for you, till forever” He rubbed your back and you both carried on swaying.

A smile appeared on your face, which he felt grow against his chest “Then I guess i’m stuck forever”

Rain - S.R

just something little

Spencer loved the rain. He loved how it calmed down every rush of people, made a cup of coffee warmer and made a movie feel more cosy. He loved the way drops of water fall from trees, leaf to leaf, like listing strands of thread. Occasionally falling on the rose of the apples of our cheeks, satin beads kissing us. The way the fragrance of the water relaxes our minds.

It never surprised anyone when he became a little distracted, staring a little too long at the drops of rainfall instead of finishing his paperwork. No one ever told him off or reminded him to get back to work, because they all knew about needing to escape and they would never bring him out of it before he needed to.

However, he stopped searching for it after a while, which correlated with your appearance in his life. His mood didn't only be positive on days it rained, but also when he'd seen you or when he planned on seeing you. A spring in his step and a smile planted on his face, even while staring at pictures of things a little to gruesome to your taste he thinks, he still can’t help the grin that appears when he notices the snacks you’ve placed in his bag.

He came home to his apartment after telling you to stay there so he could make you dinner, with his hair dripping from rain, a puddle appears at the front of his doorframe while you stood in shock.

“Spence! You’re soaking oh my god” You rushed over to him patting him dry with a towel, ignoring the grin on his face.

“Kiss me”

“What?”

“Please, Kiss me”

So you did. You kissed him so gently, with so much love, making the world quiet for a moment, just you, him, and the rain.He still admired the rain.

Just sometimes theirs something else he would rather admire.

The case was hard without Spencer, it always is when he isn't around, so when the jet landed you couldn't be more excited to go home. You heard snickers from Derek, about how you 'lose your a-game when pretty boy isn't around' and how 'he'll still be back at Quantico when we go back' but you didn’t care, your job wasn’t as easy when he wasn’t around.

You rushed through the doors, placing your go bag on your desk and rushed to Pen's office, instantly hearing bickering behind the door. You stood there for a moment, trying to listen to what they were saying.

“Your telling me, after your many years of living on this planet, you’ve never once heard of Fall Out Boy?” Penelope almost screamed, at what you presumed was your technophobe boyfriend.

“What? No- Why would i have heard of that? Is it a tv show?”

“is it a tv- God Spencer, no they’re a band, an artist, a group of people who get instruments and play songs and sing on stage”

“I know what a band is Penelope”

“Tell me, what bands have you heard of then?” You felt like you had to intervene, but it was so much funnier hearing this conversation happen while they were none the wiser of your wearabouts.

“What are you doing? Why is your ear pressed up against the do-“

“Shut the fuck up!” You hushed Morgan, “They’re arguing, listen!” You hurried him with your hand.

“My dad would play the beatles?” Spencer answered

“Can i give you a bunch of artists names? I wanna see if you know them or not.” You heard a hum after penelope’s request, which instantly made you sigh, it was only gonna get worse.

“Just say yes or no, Taylor swift?”

“No”

“Jesus christ okay, Paramore”

“No.”

“One direction”

“No?”

“Black Sabbath?”

“No”

“Metallica?”

“Oh yeah i know Metallica”

“You’ve never heard of Black Sabbath, but you know Metallica?” You could feel the judgement pour out of her eyes from behind the door, which instantly made you open the door.

Their faces instantly lit up at the sight of you, Reid instantly waddling over to give you a hug despite the pain in his knee, given you direct eye contact with Penelope as you hugged him, “Did you know he doesn’t know Taylor Swift?” She asked you, a defeated look appeared on her face, “He’s been one of my best friends for god knows how long, and he’s never heard of Taylor Swift”

Chuckling, “Yeah, I wear headphones in the house a lot so he doesn’t really get a lot of my music taste” You respond, you look to him “Can we go home? I’m tired”

He smiled, “Yeah, C’mon” you both turned to Penelope who’s started chatting to Derek, “Bye you two!”

Both of you waddled out of the door, helping him walk to leave, before grabbing your bag off your desk and everything else you needed.

“Thank you” He said to you, a grin as wide as his ears appeared on his face.

“I don’t know why you didn’t just tell her” You respond.

“And let her know that i love her favourite artist? No way i’ve got an image to maintain” You let out a snort at that statement, causing him to laugh also.

“Arsehole, she’s gonna be furious when you tell her you’ve got the orange reputation vinyl she wants”

“That’s why we aren’t gonna tell her”
