A sudden sharp pain pierced through her chest, followed by a loud scream of her own name. Everything was suddenly blurry. The room was spinning...No, me? I don't know, I don't care.
She felt the impact of her own body falling to the ground with a loud thud. Ironically though, she couldn't care less. All she badly wanted to do was sleep. She wanted to give in to her own exhaustion, to let it consume her and finally fall into a deep comfortable slumber.
Moon Byulyi and Kim Yongsun were out on a dangerous mission entrusted to them by their higher-ups. They knew it was a life-threatening mission wherein one mistake, it could lead to death. Despite this fact, they were confident enough with their own skills. They have always been partners-in-crime, after all, invincible within their field. There were no other partners as compatible as them who were always in sync with their movements, covering up each other's blind spots, therefore, receiving such tasks is not a new occasion.
So why? How did this happen? Where did we go wrong?
It was so sudden. All sorts of questions raced in Yongsun's head as she saw her partner's figure fall to the ground. She pulled the trigger, shooting the man who was responsible for the situation.
Yongsun held her breath, trying to control her tears as she rushed to her partner's side. She could feel her heart pounding against her chest, her hands were uncontrollably trembling as she dropped onto her knees, hurriedly reaching to the woman.
"Byul-ah." She muttered, feeling lightheaded as she desperately searched for the source of the flowing blood before frantically removing her own vest to serve as a makeshift bandage.
Byulyi stared at her with half-lidded eyes, watching Yongsun's panicked expression turn to fear when she saw the blood rapidly pooling around her figure.
"I'm sorry." For messing up. For getting you worried like this. For leaving so suddenly.
"No, stop that, you little shit. You're gonna be fine. You're-You're gonna be fine." Yongsun yelled at her. No, she's not letting her go like this. There must be something she can do. Ambulance? Yes, there must be a hospital just a few blocks from there, she saw it on the way. "Hang in there, Byul-ah. You have to."
Ignoring the silent call of her name, she reach down to her pocket, attempting to pull out her phone to dial an emergency number when she heard the younger let out groan followed by a coughing fit.
Tears streamed down her cheeks as she let her own hands fall limp on her side, a loud sob she's been holding in helplessly escaping her lips as she watched the life slowly slip away from her partner's eyes. Her sobs echoed through the walls of the room, her own tears blurring her vision, as she felt a cold hand brush away her tears before it landed once again on the concrete floor.
"Yongsun-ah, don't cry." She muttered, a tear dropping from her eyes, before finally falling into a deep eternal slumber.
They were successful on their mission but why is their victory not as fulfilling?
