Exhibit A: Anatomy of a Facebook fan
The gist:
Use different types of content to drive conversations in the social community. Build buzz and reward fans. Goal is to convert fans into SUPERfans.
EDGERANK is the algorithm for who appears on Top News feeds. Remember the formula, EdgeRank = Sum of (Affinity*Weight*Time Decay), where a) Affinity = your time investment in conversing with a fan, b) Weight = level of interaction the content gets (likes, comments), c) Time Decay = The older the news, the lower this goes.

Highlights from Music 2.0 2011
I just got back from the second annual Music 2.0 conference in the Microsoft building in Cambridge. Charles McEnerney did a great job hosting the event and assembling the speakers. He kept them all to 5 minutes or less and covered over 2 and a half hours so there was a good number of folks who had something to say about the changing face of music in the digital age. Here were my favorites:
Moontoast - "Monetizing Social" - allows you to sell your music directly within posts on facebook and other social platforms. Cool presentation and a great tool/service.
Loudcaster - Create your own radio station to broadcast online for only $9.95/month
Tourfilter - Sign up to get notified when your favorite artists come to town. It works so fast you can sign up for like 60 bands in 60 seconds. You can also submit a show.
Noteflight - Creates sheet music of your music, dude!
W3C Audio Working Group - Client-side script API that allows you to use and create awesome music visualizations to work seamlessly right on your browser using javascript.
Oh yeah, Sonos was a sponsor, so I was able to thank their reps personally for their great product and today's announcement that you can now send music from your iPad, iPhone and Android directly to the zone player. Something I had wanted to do from the get go on my system but couldn't. Luckily I didn't have to wait long for this feature.
