sheâs gently moving to sit in his lap. emotionally exhausted, mentally tired. defensive. and extremely tense. she thought perhaps sheâd had enough of her family members showing back up from the dead. head moves to rest against his shoulder lightly, moving to place his hands lightly on her stomach. â just - hold us ? please ? â
you are the prettiest peach i ever did see. - mooonstoned
thereâs hundreds of people here today. most of them have brought their lovers, their partners, their friends, to enjoy the festivities of the day. sheâs not quite sure where julian has gotten off too. little mary and lydia had found something that absolutely fascinated them, and he had told her he was going to entertain them. desdemona is having fun, she thinks. itâs been a while since sheâs attended a fair, a festival, something of an event meant to entertain one. they were quite popular even in her youth, though she never really got to attend those. and obviously, thereâs quite a difference in the type of entertainment now. parlor games, usually rigged against the participants.
but sheâs having fun simply being at their sides. or at least she was before they both left her. thereâs a slight shuffling of one of her heels against dirt and grass, and she realizes sheâs very lucky that her heel doesnât sink into the dirt below it. smile is faint, and she stands for a moment, awkwardly. apollo had split from both their sides pretty early on, and desdemona knows she is not privy to know their constant movements. despite how her paranoia eats at her. her hands are idly dusting none existent dirt from her dress. despite having shown up with both apollo and julian, sheâs been left alone to her own devices.
as seconds turn into minutes, hazel hues begin to peer around. standing there, desdemona feels like a ditched prom date, almost. people are holding hands as they walk past her, laughing, and smiling, and thereâs an almost instant string of jealousy. sheâs not so impatient that she canât be left alone for ten minutes on her own, is she ? yes she is. desdemona godfrey does not get ditched. because that jealousy and envy stings regardless, frown imminent on her lips. one of her hands is moving to grasp at the fabric of her dress, lightly lifting it from the ground. as soon as desdemona moves to take a step to go find them herself, thereâs the sound of apolloâs voice from behind her. head turns, brown curls falling over the edge of her shoulder. she almost cannot even see him behind the large stuffed bear in his arms. itâs one desdemona had seen early on in the fair and wondered how anyone was supposed to beat their silly rigged games for something so large ? but it was the biggest one, and desdemona had wanted it. rather childish of her, if she had to admit. and apolloâs been back there this entire time, simply to get it. frown vanishes in a near instant, bright smile on lipstick painted lips.
â you are the prettiest peach i ever did see -â thereâs a faint flush to her cheeks with her smile. how utterly charming. thereâs something about the fact that apollo and julianâs charm differs so much between the two. and the fact that desdemona has someone managed to be caught between the two of them. his words are a flirtation, words are something he and her have been throwing back and forth for years, but no action between the two of them. apolloâs eyes are searching over her, looking at the bright smile of herâs. â so â if the lady wants the giant teddy bear, thatâs what the lady gets. â desdemonaâs taking careful steps towards him, careful of her heels sinking into dirt. a hand is moving to gently press down the head of the teddy bear to look at him. her eyes are almost bearing into him, and that smile, the flush of her cheeks hasnât left. it's rare to see such unfiltered ( unmasked ) emotion from both her and julian, apollo thinks.
â so, iâm a peach, and a lady ? â itâs a tease of his words, though desdemona has a half mind to tell him that she has not been a lady in several hundreds of years. apolloâs not quick with words, with banter the way she and julian are. and when he looks like heâs trying to search for a response, desdemona shakes her head softly. â relax, love. iâm teasing. â lips press to the side of his cheek, sure to leave lipstick behind, delightfully on purpose. apollo tries not to light up like a christmas bulb really. â thank you. i canât believe youâve been playing their silly little games simply because i wanted - â her hand is idly messing with the ribbon of a bow around the teddy bearâs neck. her eyes drop down for a moment, but smile doesnât leave her. â should we go find out where my husband has run off with my children ? if we stand here too long i may ask you to win me another teddy bear. â
this time he doesn't hesitate for words. ' i'd win em all if it would make ya keep that smile on ya face. '
