Let's talk about Interview with a Vampire.
LETāS.
i love how when you strip away the āimmortal and unholy creatures of the night that must kill and drink blood to surviveā aspect, itās literally a story about how one wildly dramatic guy steals a little girl to make his angsty boyfriend stay with him and find a new lease on life.
Can you explain to a non-dog breeder as to why the Borzoi look the way they do? Where they bred to do a particular task?
Borzoi have existed since the 9th and 10th centuries and were called Russian Wolfhounds. They are descendants of an Asian type greyhounds which was brought to Russia and then mixed with several different breeds to create the dog we see today. They wanted thicker skin, more hair to withstand the cold Russian climate as well as the instinct and agility to take down a full grown wolf. They were used in hunts by nobility and were a status symbol among the Czars.Ā
Ok so! I would like a Sivi doggo, what special things do they need to flourish?
like with borzoi, silkens need space to run daily. because they are smaller than borzoi, the space they require to run is smaller too, but i try to give sivi as much space as i can possibly give.Ā
aside from that, they require a gentle hand, short and sweet training sessions, and a soft place to sleep.Ā
really, though, the best thing you can do is go out and meet silkens. i think a lot of people see pictures and videos online and think theyāre such hams, theyāre so fun, theyāre so perfect etc. etc. but then you meet them irl and to some people their personality comes off as very flat.Ā
they are not like other dogs. they donāt want to wrestle with you, they donāt like games other dogs like, and they express themselves very differently than other breeds. although there are certainly exceptions, they are weird little dogs! you should be sure you enjoy that weirdness before you get one. and by weirdness, i donāt mean siviās adorable squeaking and endearingly odd looks. i mean: the fact that it took me like 6 months to learn how to motivate him to learn anything, the fact that it took the same amount of time for me to be able to read him as well as i read the other dogs, the fact that he took a million years to potty train, the fact that he needed daily outings to be comfortable in the outside world, the fact that he is very reserved with strangers, the fact that he shows affection in unusual ways or not at all, the list goes on and on. heās perfect for me and my life (heās basically me as a dog), but iāve met people who felt that he wasĀ ānot a real dogā and did not like that he wasnāt super peppy/expressive/friendly like a lab or golden retriever. sivi does not tug, does not wrestle, does not chase a ball, does not catch frisbees. certainly there are silkens who do. a friend of mine has a silken who will fetch frisbees and tug for days. my point is that they are all-around unusual dogs and if youāre interested in a silken, you should definitely meet a lot of them if you can before being sure you want one.
