I love our galaxy brain writing team. I keep finding things that serve more than one -more obvious- purpose and Renee and Sophie hooking up is the main one I keep coming back to.
Now I'm really realizing what they (mooretoya) did because Sophie was feeling guilty about giving Alice an opportunity to get away while she was off hooking up with Renee. Renee would be able to make good on her blackmailing and put Ryan in prison since Alice got away BUT now she can't because all of this is HER fault. She's the one who was sleeping with Alice's guardian when she disappeared. She had Sophie in her apartment. What the fuck, Renee? lol
She knew good and damn well all Alice wanted was her freedom. Literally Alice was joking about going on vacation for an entire episode. But she chose her...needs over keeping Alice under watch. This is all on her. Yeah, Sophie shouldn't have been away but her being away at Renee's place completely absolves her. This is Renee's case and this was her plan.
I cannot wait until Renee and Ryan get to confront each other. This adds fucking layers to their dynamic. Renee knew something was going on between Wildmoore ("Drama. Should I get two straws?" she knew) and she slept with Sophie anyway. All I can think is she must really believe Ryan is just some former drug-dealing ex-con. She doesn't know her at all, only her file. She clearly thinks little of Ryan. She's doing her dirty left and right (not saying she did anything wrong by sleeping with Sophie, Sophie is single. Dirty and wrong aren't always the same thing. "Dirty" is sometimes more about principle. It's a gray area.). They've had shockingly few scenes but the next one they have will definitely make up for that.
