(1/3) Sam and Dean are starting at another new school today, the first day of the new semester. It's January, so it's freezing, so Sam is all bundled up. The day goes ok for Sam, he doesn't play with the other kids much (he's too shy), but most of

(2/3) them were nice enough, at least during class. Unfortunately, that didn't last during recess, which they shared with some of the older grade levels, neither of which were Dean's. A much larger older boy and his friends come up and start bullying

(3/ACTUALLY 4) Sam, including stealing his hat, until a boy from the middle grade comes and stops them. He tells Sam that he was sorry for his brother and that his name was Gabriel and did Sam need anything? When Sam says Lucifer stole his hat

(4/4) GABRIEL TAKES HIS OWN MOOSE BEANIE OFF HIS HEAD AND GIVES IT TO SAM AND THAT'S HOW THEY MEET!!!!!

EXCUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSE ME WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO WRITE SUCH AN ADORABLE FUCKING PROMPT THAT NOT ONLY GIVES ME ALL OF THE FEELS, BUT IS SO FUCKING CUTE I NEED SO MANY MORE WORDS OF IT THAN I ACTUALLY HAVE.  

Oh god, and I can just picture Sam kinda wandering around the playground, wanting something to do, but really wanting his big brother there, because at least then he wouldn’t be alone, and he doesn’t want to be alone right now. 

And when a hand immediately swipes his hat off his head and pushes him down onto the ground, Sam is taken by enough surprise that he doesn’t have time to react the day that Dean and Sam would, before the teacher notices.  They’re older, in Dean’s grade, or maybe in fifth grade, and Sam’s just in first grade and he’s biting his lip, because his hand hurts, it got scraped, but he has to be a big boy and not cry.  

He gets back to his feet, only to be shoved down all over again, this time his knees hurt, even through the poofy pants he’s supposed to wear on the playground, and he’s just about to ask them to stop (even though he knows they won’t stop, they never do), when another loud voice echoes behind him.  

“Back off or I’ll tell them your real name, Luci!” 

Sam doesn’t see or hear what gets heard next, but then the taller boys are walking away and he’s struggling to push himself to his feet.  He looks up at the boy who ran them off and rubs at his eyes, careful to make sure he sees that he definitely isn’t crying.  

“You okay?” 

Sam looks up and gasps a little, because it’s an angel that rescued him.  His hair is golden and peeking out from under his hat, and his eyes match his hair and he’s beautiful.  Sam manages a nod (Dean would want him to nod), and smiles a little.  

“Sorry for my brothers, they’re jerks.  Are you okay?  Did they hurt you?” 

Sam bites down on his lip, because his ears are starting to get cold and he hates it.  “They took my hat,” he manages quietly, looking up at the angel in front of him.  

He gives a little laugh.  “Well, that’s easy enough to fix.  My name’s Gabriel, what’s yours?” 

“Sam,” Sam says and then blinks in surprise when Gabriel takes his hat (and it has moose antlers!!) and puts it on his head.  It’s a little bit big for him, and it slips down and over his eyes until he pushes it back and looks up at Gabriel.  “But this one is yours?” 

“Not anymore,” Gabriel says with a laugh.  “Suits you more, I think.”  

Sam smiled and nodded, causing the hat to fall into his again.  He huffed in frustration.  “It’s too big.”  

Gabriel leaned down and offered his hand to Sam.  “You’ll grow into it.” 

Sam gave Gabriel a delighted grin.  “Really?”  

“You bet,” Gabriel said with a serious nod.  “Come on, want to play foursquare with us?”  

SPOILERS: SAM TOTALLY KEEPS THE HAT FOREVER, AND DOESN’T CARE THAT DEAN TEASES HIM, AND HE’S SEWN THE ANTLERS BACK ON AT LEAST THREE TIMES, AND HE WILL KEEP IT FOREVER, AND WHEN HE AND GABRIEL HAVE A MASSIVE SNOWBALL FIGHT AND FALL BACK BEHIND THEIR FORT (YEARS LATER), SAM JUST LEANS OVER AND KISSES GABRIEL BECAUSE IT FEELS RIGHT.  

GABRIEL JUST TANGLES HIS FINGERS IN SAM’S HAIR AND PULLS HIM IN FOR ANOTHER KISS, MUTTERING THAT IT WAS ABOUT TIME HIS MOOSE FIGURED THINGS OUT.

During of a witch hunt in the middle of winter, Sam and Dean accidentally get de-aged, which means that Gabriel has to snap up some wintry outfits for the two of them. Sam, of course, gets a moose beanie, and Dean gets a a squirrel one. (1/2)

When they're re-aged, the beanies stay. Dean gets irritated at the minor prank, but Sam loves his (though he doesn't admit it) and now he always wears it when he's cold, because it's warm and reminds him of Gabriel. (2/2)

OMG, BUT THIS IS SO CUTE THOUGH, OKAY?  I CANNOT EVEN BEGIN TO TELL YOU HOW FUCKING ADORABLE THIS IS, IT’S SO CUTE THAT IT HURTS.  

Oh god, but I’m just dying at the idea of Sam in a full body snowsuit like little kids wear, and then Dean in snow pants and a big poofy jacket that he HATES, because it’s bright green, and he doesn’t like it at all, so he’s glaring/pouting at Gabriel and Sam’s trying to pull his hood up and mumbling that he’s cold.  

Gabriel snaps up two beanie for the both of them, a squirrel one for Dean and a moose one for Sam, and Sam LOVES his instantly, tugging it low over his head, so his hair is just barely poking out, and he’s giggling at Dean’s, even though Dean is pulling it down, trying to keep his ears warm.  

The two of them end up having a snow ball fight while Cas takes care of the witch, and Gabriel enchants some snowballs to chase after Dean, which has Sam laughing so hard, he falls over into the snow and doesn’t stop.  Gabriel thinks that Sam is fucking adorable and keeps the snowballs going, especially when Dean realizes he can bat them out of the air, which turns into a whole different game that Sam has to join his brother in playing!  

After both of the adorable darlings pass out, Gabriel takes them back to the bunker where they wait for the spell to wear off.  It does, soon enough and both of them wake up, still wearing the beanies and not much else.  Gabriel snickers when Dean shouts indignantly and rushes for his bedroom, but Sam?  Sam just raises an eyebrow at Gabriel and stretches on the couch.  

Gabriel’s mouth goes a little dry.  Especially when Sam keeps the moose beanie on as he walks to his bedroom.  Hell of a view coming AND going.  That shit just wasn’t FAIR.

Mmmm, what about Gabriel buying the moose beanie for Sam? Or just anything with the Moose beanie ♥

THE ORIGINS OF THE MOOSE BEANIE.  OH GOD, I HAVE SO MANY IDEAS FOR WHERE THIS COULD COME FROM.  SOOOOOOOO MANY. I’M GONNA GO HUMAN AU WITH IT, CAUSE I THINK THIS IS FUCKING ADORABLE.  

Sam has had a horrible week.  He’s been dumped, he got a C on his Calculus test and well, he’d been fucking dumped by one of the hottest girls in school.  Who had only wanted to date him because of his test scores.  

On top of that, his jacket had a huge rip in it, so he couldn’t wear it to school, so all he had was his heaviest hoodie, but it was too damn cold without anything else.  

Sam slumped into the cafeteria chair and glared at his best friend who was holding a bag with wrapping paper in it.  Gabriel was notorious for pranks and well, Sam wasn’t exactly feeling up to it.  Except Gabriel is pushing the bag closer to him.  

Gabriel just rolls his eyes and promises it’s innocent.  “I wouldn’t kick you when you’re down, that’s just cruel.  Here, it’s something to cheer you up, now let me do my job as best friend.”  

Sam just huffs and opens the bag.  The first thing he pulls out is a package of Gay Bacon and he bursts out laughing, tears in his eyes as he looked up at Gabriel.  His best friend is grinning, bright and wide, motioning him towards the bag again.  

Sam grins and opens it with a little more enthusiasm.  Next he pulls out a pack of his favorite type of pen and he shoots Gabriel a grateful grin.  They aren’t cheap, and he wasn’t looking forward to buying more, but of course Gabriel had noticed.  

OF COURSE.  

Then there’s something else at the bottom, and he pulls it out and just stares at it in horror before laughing hard enough that he maybe cries a little bit.  Because the moose beanie is perfect and exactly what he needed.  He doesn’t hesitate and puts it on right away.  

He forgets about Ruby for the rest of the afternoon.  

And then, when he and Gabriel have their first of many kisses, six months later, he’s wearing the beanie.

RIGHT OKAY Gabriel thinking the hat is super cute and Sam thinking it's uber dorky but whatever and then this onE TIME THEY'RE MAKING OUT AND GABRIEL SNAPS HIS FINGERS AND THE HAT'S ON SAM'S HEAD AND THE SONG YOU CAN LEAAAAAAAAAAAAVE YOUR HAT ON STARTS PLAYING and gabriel finds himself on the floor :|

OH GOD, OH GOD, OKAY, GABRIEL DOING STUFF MID-MAKEOUT TO MAKE SAM LAUGH, BECAUSE THERE’S NOTHING BETTER THAN SAM’S LAUGH, IT’S REALLY FANTASTIC AND I LOVE IT SO FUCKING MUCH.  AND JUST, GABRIEL BEING A FUCKING DORK WHILE MAKING OUT WITH SAM, THAT IS MY LIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFE!!!

So, Sam, of course, is getting into the kissing and he’s tugging Gabriel on top of him and pulling him closer and then Gabriel snaps, and he’s thinking that maybe Gabriel snapped himself naked, and that would be fucking FANTASTIC, except then NO.  

Instead Sam is wearing the hat and Sam just huffs and blows at his bangs a little and glares down at Gabriel, like, wtf, dude, seriously.  And then the strains of a song start to play and Sam just GROANS.

And Gabriel, Gabriel, he knows every single one of Sam’s groans, and he knows that this one only, ONLY appears when he has made the worst pun or joke possible and he completely dissolves into laughter, nearly falling off the couch, he’s laughing so hard.  

Sam just grins and shoves Gabriel off the couch, letting him fall to the floor while he laughs and Sam musters up the dignity he can manage and walks into the kitchen, the hat still on his head.  

Gabriel, of course, is STILL laughing and isn’t showing any signs of stopping whatsoever and it’s so fucking funny.  Every single time he manages to look at Sam, he just dissolves into more laughter.  

Sam just shuts Gabriel up.  *eyebrow waggle*

Gabriel buys Sam a moose beanie as a joke and then Sam is like 'this is ridiculous and I will never wear it' but then one day it's very cold in the bunker and Gabriel finds Sam wearing it and giggles and this happens like 10 times and finally Gabe realizes that Sam is turning the heat down just so he has an excuse to wear the damn hat

THIS GIF STRIKES ME AS SO VERY APPROPRIATE, SO IT’S GETTING USED, BECAUSE YES.  GABRIEL HAS A FETISH FOR SAM IN THAT BEANIE.  HE DOESN’T KNOW WHEN BEANIES STARTED TO DO IT FOR HIM, BUT IT’S SAM, SO HE HAS A LIMIT TO HOW MUCH HE QUESTIONS THINGS.  

Gabriel totally gets the beanie as a joke, and he’s expecting Sam to never wear it (even though he thinks it would be the most fucking ADORABLE thing ever), and when Sam never does, he just totally moves on from it and forgets about it (most of the time anyways).  

So then, one day, the bunker is colder (it’s winter in Kansas and it’s fucking cold) and Gabriel walks past the library, on his way to the kitchen (cause he ran out of skittles and he knows there are some in there)  and then stops, about ten steps past the library doors and backs up.  

Sam is sitting in the library, staring intently at a book.  WEARING THE BEANIE.  

Gabriel’s pretty sure that his Grace does an embarrassing flutter at the sight, especially when Sam starts chewing on his lip.  The kid is so gorgeous it’s fucking criminal.  

He doesn’t know how long he spends standing there, staring at Sam, but it’s long enough for Sam to notice and to tell him to sit down and stop lurking in the doorway.  Gabriel does.  

Over the next two weeks, the beanie makes almost a dozen appearances, and Gabriel is pretty sure that Sam is trying to kill him with cuteness, because he has no idea how he is supposed to handle the sight of Sam in that beanie all of the time.  It’s just not FAIR.  

Then one day, he stumbles over an argument.  Dean is shouting at Sam about the heat, and how he doesn’t give a shit if Sam is hot, the heat is getting turned up and he is going to DEAL with it.  

That’s when Gabriel figures it out, and he realizes that Sam has been turning the heat down.  Sam’s holding onto the beanie and Gabriel just saunters up to him and raises an eyebrow at the beanie in Sam’s hand.  

Sam just glares at him and mutters that the beanie grew on him.  Gabriel can’t help grinning and he’s about to make a joke when Sam takes it and stuffs it on top of Gabriel’s head.  Gabriel is about to protest, but Sam’s face is doing something funny.  

The expression looks almost...almost ADORING.  It makes his Grace flip over in joy several times over.  

“Okay,” Sam says, his hands still on the edge of the beanie where he had tugged it down over Gabriel’s ears.  “You’re right.  This is fucking adorable.”  He lets go and grins at Gabriel.  

Gabriel just stares after Sam with what he is sure is the most fucking lovestruck expression on his face.  Fuck, he loves that human, so damn much.

SFF: Sam's ears get cold while on a hunt in Minnesota, so Gabe helps him out by materializing a beanie for him. Dean won't stop laughing but Sam is finally warm and not taking of the hat for nothing. It's not until he gets back to the hotel that he sees it has moose antlers.

OH GOD, BUT THIS IS TOO FUCKING CUTE FOR WORDS, I NEEDED IT SO MUCH AND I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW IT, BECAUSE I LOVE THESE KIND OF HARMLESS PRANKS BECAUSE THEY’RE SO FUCKING PERFECT!!!!!!

So, Sam is totally whining like the brat he is when he gets cold, because he is cold and wet, and his ears are red and he is UNCOMFORTABLE.  

Gabriel of course, isn’t cold at all, because he’s an angel, and Sam is even grumpier at him and Gabriel eventually (because Sam’s annoyed puppy face is the cutest thing ever) snaps and gives Sam a beanie, and he even makes sure Sam is completely dry.  

Just like that, Sam’s mood is improving in a second, and Dean starts laughing at him.  Sam just thinks Dean’s mocking him for being so cheered up at the hat, because it’s warm and now he’s not miserable while they tromp through the woods.  

When they get back to the hotel, and come inside, Sam just pads into the bathroom and stops in front of the mirror and stares at the antlers poking out of the beanie.  He wants to be angry with Gabriel, but he’s grinning, because he likes it.  A lot.  

“Hey Gabriel,” he calls and he knows that the angel is listening.  “You should give Dean one with a squirrel tail!”  

Gleeful laughter and a snap is his only response, along with Dean’s outraged shout.

Sam loves beanies. He has a ton in every color, but most of them are plain. Gabriel is trying to find a present for Sam (maybe they give each other fun gifts + real gifts on birthdays or xmas) He finds the moose beanie, and now it's Sam's favorite :)

OMG OMG OMG OMG THERE ARE SO MANY BEANIE PROMPTS IN MY INBOX, THIS IS GONNA BE AN AMAZING SFF I CAN TELL ALREADY AND I’M SO FUCKING EXCITED.  

SO, so, so, so, so, like, I can picture Sam getting really frustrated trying to buy a gift for Gabriel, because other than candy, what is he supposed to buy?  

Turns out that Gabriel has the exact same problem for Sam and they’re both adorably frustrated.  

Until Gabriel sees the most perfect gag gift ever.  In fact.  He has to buy it, and spends the rest of the time, grinning like a looooooon and he brings it home and wraps it for Sam underneath the tree, and he can’t wait, can’t WAIT until he has a reason to give it to Sam.  

On the fifteenth, ten days before Christmas, it’s cold outside and Sam is grumbling about which beanie he should wear.  

The moment is perfect.  

Gabriel dashes over to the tree and grabs the present and tells Sam that he can have one early Christmas present.  And he hands it to Sam. 

Sam just huffs and opens the gift (because dammit he wants the present), and just stares at it.  In complete and utter shock before he bursts out laughing and laughs so hard he has to fall back on the couch, holding the dark brown beanie with moose antlers in front of him.  

Sam, of course, scrambles for the tree a moment later and grabs something and shoves it at Gabriel.  

Gabriel is tearing into it before he even thinks about it. He pulls out a golden beanie and it has bright white wings on the side.  Gabriel joins Sam on the couch, bursting into laughter.  

They’re perfect, and they walk out of the house, hand in hand, each of them proudly wearing their beanies.  (I MIGHT NEED ART OF THIS, WHO WANTS IT?)
