Is it just me or did the bonus scene just illustrate how much az wants the bond for himself - he sees his brothers with their mates and is envious of that. Just like cassian was. Idk there’s definitely definitely something between az and elain, I’m not questioning that they have a connection or aren’t attracted to each other, but I also just wonder if it’s something which is long term or not ?
You’ve hit the nail on the head, nonnie.
The only way I could see Elriel playing out is if Az gets help. He has a LOT of healing to do and if Elriel is going to happen I DO NOT want Elain to be Mor 2.0. That scene really illustrated how fucked up Az is when it comes to females and love/infatuation. It’s not healthy. At all. He came off as kind creepy. And I don’t want Gwyn OR Elain anywhere near him until he can recognize his behavior patterns where they come from and then start putting in the work to change them.
I know he can do it. It’s what the next book will be about. But that scene was even more illuminating than I could have imagined.
Because we KNEW he didn’t know how to be in love or to understand what romantic love really is. We knew that from the moment we learned he’d been staring at Mor for 500 years and she’d given him NOTHING. His dad really fucked him up and he needs to deal with that, and un-learn those behaviors first before he can move on and be good enough for anyone.
I honestly like his dynamic with Gwyn more than I like his dynamic with Elain. I could be swayed though both ways. I just like that Gwyn is Nesta’s friend and part of the friend group already and that Az is too. It works more smoothly than adding Elain into the mix or having Az taken out of it.
I also think Elain could become High Lady of Spring Court because SJM did not just drop that line about how the magic can literally choose whoever tf it wants to be High Lord. Fuck Lucien being in charge of Spring, let it choose Elain and then THAT be her journey to self discovery and not being who everyone wants her to be. And let her decide if she wants Lucien’s help (because he’s in a good position to get people on her side if the Spring Court magic decided Tamlin had “checked out of the building” and it had to choose another ruler). That plot line is JUICY. Elain suddenly saddled with responsibility she doesn’t want but also she loves the land and the people need help healing so she’s like “I’ma do this and show them all that I can rise to the occasion.” Or whatever. I mean it could go so many ways. What I don’t want is the magic to go to a male, aka Lucien, and then have Elain go there and play sidekick. Like no, give me a magic chosen High Lady and let HER choose Lucien to be her sidekick/right hand dude and let that love bloom or die or whatever. Sorry that went off on a tangent!
