the symbolism of mozarts score/music homoerotically choking salieri,,,,,,,,,,, its unparalleled
One of the trippiest aspects of being queer: the sheer mind-fuckery of the thought process, "do I want to bang them or BE them?"
kings of social distancing
ok i was just going to make this joke but mozart being blue and salieri orange? aka coMPLEMENTARY COLOURS?!?!?!?!
something really funny that neither proshot shows is how after mozart gives salieri the score and tells him he doesnt need it, salieri is so MAD, so BAFFLED at mozarts attitude that he starts running after him to (i guess) give back the score cuz he wants to leave the premises immediately and never look at this pretentious twink again
but he stops when mozart bends down and unnecessary shows his ass which, first of all, gay, but besides that salieri realises that trying to reason with a clown is pointless so he thinks "ok hes irritating. im sure this will suck and ill have a laugh. ill stay"
anyways i think this ties everything together so well because later, after lbqfm, he throws the score on the floor, instead of giving it back to mozart !!! thats him doing what he thinks he should have done before the music even began !!
can i ask why you don't like the 3D version of LBQFM? cause it was a bit underwhelming for me too tbh but i need to rewatch that proshot so i might like it more then
yeah of course! in summary its because they degayed it so much that it became flavourless.
i watched both the 2010 and the 2011 recordings side by side to 1. go insane and 2. show u what i mean. see how literally every single iconic part got cut off:
the guy at the beginning choking and pushing salieri around is not there at all anymore
again the male dancer is not there anymore so when salieri sings about the knife going through his heart he doesnt get symbolically stabbed by the dancer, he just bends down like he has arthritis or a stomach ache
wow would u look at that. yet again no male dancer to shove the score on his face so salieri just awkwardly grabs it
am i being repetitive yet?
this is the climax!!! the peak of the performance!!!!!!! and now hes just standing there ..........
and to finish it off once again he isnt being manhandled anymore, just awkwardly walking around.
but wait. u thought it was over? ha. lets not forget the atrocious continuity error, in the 2011 recording, of salieris cravat suddenly being gone when the song is over. this is the lAST STRAW TO ME. this could have been finally a good change... something with flavour.. and yet... its a mystery. idk if it was a mistake and it felt off or idk maybe a male dancer pulled it off so they had to cut the gay out!1!1 dkljaskl
(btw the editing problem isnt just in this scene. from the top of my head i remember that in the rehearsal part u can see how they clearly mixed together 2 different shots which obviously kills the vibe of it being a live performance. i mean this; salieri is uncrossing his arms in one shot and when it cuts to the next one he is fixing his coat)
but back to lbqfm. now this might just be me being biased cuz i already prefer the 2010 dvd for those reasons, but i also think that in that version they zoom in at the right parts and show the choreo, the stage and the lighting a lot better than in 2011. like in the instrumental part of the song, when the lighting changes from red and green to purple and blue u know? ugh in the 2010 dvd is so much cooler, they show everything in a wide shot... perhaps they changed the way they shot it to add a cOoL 3D effect but oh well i cant know that
anyways i had to check some youtube videos to see if the choreo changes were just for the new recording and nah u can see in this video from february 2011 how its the exact same but this one from june 2011 shows yet again more changes in the choreo, being a mix of both versions and i think my favourite one now?
so to be clear im not mad about the constant changes in basically every part of the show bc MOR isnt a the phantom of the opera situation (POTO). in replica productions of POTO (like broadway) the choreo/blocking etc etc is still the same from when it premiered 3 decades ago but the actors change all the time so it feels different, it still stays fresh. MOR is different; besides claire leaving, the cast remained the same for 3 years and i mean of course every single performance is unique, even when its the same choreo and people, but its minor stuff like the micro expressions i love to screenshot every week dlakjsk
its good that they kept trying new things to not only make people rewatch it, but also to try to improve the show and keep it interesting for the actors too tbh. some things work, others dont, so u can ignore the changes u dont like (and maybe someone else does like them) and enjoy what brings u joy
at first i thought this was salieri choking himself but no he is grabbing his collar bc THAT is whats choking him which rEPRESENTS the perSONA HE PRETENDS TO BE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the range... the emotional roller coaster ... the way he is caught off guard and is quickly struck with awe. for a moment he closes his eyes, allowing himself to dive deeper into those feelings, however he is still scared. he looks around nervously, but its too late to run away now. then he shuts his eyes once again, yet this time looking down; acknowledging his inescapable feelings and already preparing himself to deny them, except well. u know what happens next.
clownery and flirting aside, the whole "it seems you are a musician" part is sweet too... rosenberg had just publicly mocked mozart and his music and even tho salieri is rosenbergs friend, unlike the other man he is a musician... just because of that mozart trusted salieri, a man he just met, to able to understand him and his composition... because despite their differences he believed they could speak the same language through music........ that salieri could truly see him..
