We have to talk about one of those most chilling deaths in all of Star Wars (other than that one clone who got cut in half)
This is Sumar from Rebels. Sumar was a part of the Lothal Rebellion. (He's also voiced by Liam O'Brien for those who love Critical Role like me ❤️)
He worked in an Imperial factory and purposely sabotaged many of their equipment, so it would all practically self-destruct if any of it ever reached full power.
When Thrawn suspected him, he MADE Sumar test his own equipment that he manufactured. Thrawn made him test the equipment to its breaking point. It was about to explode, and Sumar wanted to stop, claiming that something was wrong, but Thrawn insisted that the demonstration wasn't over.
Sumar was killed by his own creation in such a brutal scene for a KIDS show! And Ezra, who had known Sumar since he was a kid, was forced to watch it happen, or else his cover would've been blown.
Random defectors bits that have crossed our mind the past few days:
---
Ezra [17]: Ally, would you still love me if I were a worm??
Kallus: yes. My answer has not changed in eight years.
Ezra: just checking :]
---
Ezra, 7 y/o and just opening up to Kallus: how old are you????
Kallus, internally: [I could tell him what my forged papers say. But I don't want to start this off with lies. He's just starting to trust me.]
Kallus: I am 23.
Ezra: *immediately brings his palms up/looks down at his hands to count*
Kallus: ???
Ezra: you were 16 when I was born!
Kallus, thinking that this is the most adorable thing he's ever seen: I was.
Ezra: I thought that Tua said you were closer to her age?
Kallus: because that's what my file says. It's a secret.
Ezra: a secret? Why?
Kallus: because I had to lie to be allowed to enlist on the academy on coruscant.
Ezra: so everyone thinks you're older than you actually are?
Kallus: most of them. It was harder to keep a secret when I was younger, but as the years go on its less noticeable.
---
Kallus consistently reassuring Ezra, encouraging him. He tells him how great he's doing at something, how quick he learns, how clever he is, highlights his strengths, and soothes his insecurities.
It all encourages Ezra to do more, to be more confident and comfortable. Ezra looks forward to showing Kallus all the things he does, telling him about what he did.
Sometimes it's Ezra seeking Kallus out when he's unsure or feeling dread. Kallus is always so gentle with him and kind. Warm and soft; safe.
---
Morad, near the beginning of getting to know Kallus and trying to figure out how much he can trust him: I've noticed a few things and was wondering if I could ask you a question?
Kallus, finishing up a case before putting the tablet away to continue watching Ezra run and play in the Sumar fields: most certainly, Mr. Sumar.
Morad: you aren't the most patient person and I've heard how you temper can grow shorter.
Kallus: something I'm working on yes, but I assure you, at no point will Ezra be receiving such from me.
Morad: that's what I wanted to ask about. I've also seen how you put much more effort and intention into keeping calm and level headed with Ezra. And I know for quite a few months he wasn't making that easy.
Kallus: Ezra’s entire world as he knew it got turned around and he is only seven. Angry outbursts are the least of what's to be expected.
Morad: even still, some of the best people I know don't always have that type of control over their anger or patience.
Kallus: When I was around Ezra's age, i... *pauses to gage how much he's going to share* was a very difficult child in a difficult situation. I didn't trust anyone and most people had no sympathy for me.
Morad: so you're trying to be who you didn't have?
Kallus: I'm trying to be the one person I did have. There was this miralukan chef from a few levels up. They made consistent efforts to try and gain my trust.
-Morad realizes that Kallus was most probably from the lower levels of coruscant rather than the upper crust.
Kallus: I can't tell you how many times I lashed out at them and fled. I thought they were going to hurt me. But. They kept trying.
-Morad pieces together that Kallus grew up on the streets, but unlike Ephraim, most people weren't kind to him.
Kallus: and eventually, I did trust them enough to accept the food and clothing they brought me. I would follow them sometimes to see where they were going, where they came from. I sought them out and they would help me.
Kallus: it didn't take long after that, they took me in but I was still so temperamental. I still lashed out. But they always kept patient. They never lashed back at me.
Kallus: in fact, it stuck out to me that they never turned their anger to me, their impatience. I've seen them get angry at other people. Yell at them, scream at them, even have physical altercations. But...
Morad: they made it a point to be patient and gentle with you.
Kallus: Yeah. And for the longest time I thought they were just being the kindest person in the universe. But when I met Ezra, it struck me just how young I had been when I was in such a position.
Morad: kids have a way of realigning how you perceive things.
Kallus: that they do.

Whatever you build here, you will test personally..
“How’d we get here?”
There needs to be more about the Sumars.
Name and Soul
{Attention unidentified fighter you are entering Lothal’s air space. State your business!} {This is Fenn Rau of the Protectors and my business is my own. Unless you want to take it up with my superiors back on Mandalore be my guess.} Lieutenant Evans turned to his superior. “Sir, the scans confirm he is from Mandalore. Should we contact his superiors sense he won’t state his business?”
Admiral Konstantine turned pale, he knew the Mandalorians were not one to be trifled with. “Ehh, No Lieutenant let him through but tell him he will greeted by Minister Tua.” {Captain Rau you have permission to land. Proceed to bay fifteen in the capital station you’ll be greeted by a local official.} {Very well then. Rau out.}
Rau sighed in frustration, he was hoping to have some privacy. When an encrypted message was sent out to the members Cuy`val Dar he was asked by the senior members to check it out. The message was vague, it only said to come to Lothal and talk to Old Jho. He would have to play it safe and see what this Old Jho wanted.
“Ahh, Captain Rau, I am Minister Tua. It is an honor to meet you. Let me be the first to say Welcome to Lothal.” The Minister was lean woman with tan skin and blond hair. She looked like a decent person, but Rau hoped Tua wouldn’t be accompanying him too long. “Yes, thank you Minister you as well. I’m sorry to be a bother but could you tell me where I can find an Old Jho?” Tua seemed to perk up in recognition.
“Oh yes, Old Jho is the owner of a cantina in Jhothal. Its only few hours away.” Well this won’t take long as he thought it would. “And about being a bother its no trouble. We Lothalians are a people of community and hospitality. I’ll provide you with a speeder and let the other officials you are a servant of the Empire. This way we’ll stay out of your hair.” Ah, she’s one of those. “Thank you Minister I’ll be on my way now.”
Old Jho’s Pit Stop remined Rau of the clone run cantinas. Especially with a gunship nose and pair LAAT/I wings mounted above the entrance. Approaching the bar, he cleared his throat to get the Ithorian’s attention.
“Afraid we don’t have any Mando brews if that’s what you’re looking for? Names Jho I own this lovely abode.” “Unfortunately, no. I’m Fenn Rau and I would like to know how you got hold of our secure channel?” Old Jho hands him a bowl of tea. “A dear friend of mine was one of your commandos. Gave me your lots frequency in case we got desperate.” Rau snorted into his tea. “Let me guess you got desperate.”
“Not in the ways your thinking but we have a bit of a life or death situation.” “I don’t know how much I can help but if it involves one the Vod I’m in.” Rau was curious over this supposed life and death situation. From what he's seen of Lothal it shouldn’t be that bad. As long if it doesn’t involve Saxon or the Empire he was pretty much game. “The Sumars can explain better then I could. Their farm is not that far from here.” Gulping his tea down, Rau paid the bartender and made his way to the Sumar’s farm.
Lothal was an odd place, the culture seemed to be almost nonexistent, it was bit unsettling. It seems the Empire has its hooks hear too. Maybe the commando wants to desert and needs off this rock? The lack of information was giving him headache.
True to Old Jho’s word the farm was not that far. Walking up to the homestead he was greeted by woman. “Hello, you must be Fenn Rau? I’m Marida Sumar, Jho said you would be here soon. Please come inside, my husband and I will explain everything.” Entering the homestead Rau was introduced to Morad Sumar.
“Sumar I would like to know how you got hold the Cuy`val Dar frequency, what exactly is this life or death scenario?” The two Lothalians were guiltily wringing their hands together. Morad cleared his throat. “Our friend Mira married a clone commando during the clone wars, he helped our planet when the Republic ignored our pleads. When the Republic turned to the Empire, they decided to speak out, which it will be three years ago.” “If your asking me to break the-” Rau was cut off by a frantic Marida “No! No! No! That’s not what were asking for. You see they had a son called Ezra and recently we found out that Tseebo another friend wasn’t taking care him like he promised.”
Rau had unsettling suspicion on where this was going. “And how recently did you find out?” “You have to understand, we have our employees entire lively hoo-” Rau interrupted Morad with a growl. “Where is he?” “I-In an abandon communication tower, outside of the capital.”
Don't know where I'm going with this. Like always I'm just experimenting with one-shots or experimental chapters to improve. One day I'll reorganize and make sense of my garble mess.
