I can't be the only person who doesn't like 'good' protagonists.
And by that, I mean that I thoroughly DESPISE main characters that have a very strict and good moral compass.
(AKA they're very Light and Good, morally).
And I don't like that because it just makes the character that much more annoying to watch/read.
"Oh, you don't want to kill the villain? That's OK, we'll find another way—"
No! It's not OK. Either kill the dude and finish the job or just quit being a hero.
Like, you're trying to tell me that this person (the MC) signed up to fight in a war and chose to go on this perilous journey in order to stop this evil mage, is expected to kill people, but can't kill the enemy?
Like, just shut up and go home. If you can't finish the job, just quit it all together. Go back to your dead parents' graves and cry about it for all I care.
I am a realist with a pinch of pessimism sprinkled inside. And FYI, if I was the hero, you can bet your arse that I'm gonna kill the villain and finish the job.
I'm not letting any more people suffer and die just because I want to "preserve my morals" or "keep my innocence".
No.
I signed up for fighting in this war/journey/whatever. I signed up knowing that I'd have to kill someone eventually. So don't expect to find me whining and complaining about how I don't want to kill the villain.
I signed up for this shit and I'm going to keep my end of the f*cking bargain.
Either deal with it or f*ck off.

Anyone else think this too? If so, tell me in the comments what other annoying movie/book tropes you also hate.
So far who are your top morally dark men in your books ? -🌸
