The Dark Shadowmancer and Feeble Resistance
-------------------------------------------------------
Featured Characters:
A tall pale man with pointy ears and black horns dressed in a dark robe and a creepy necklace appeared, holding a staff and having dark crimson hair. The magic in the air felt more suffocating with his presence.
"Oh no.. it's.. the Lord of Shadows, Mordegon!" Rollo said, overcome with fear. But there was no need for explanation, for Valerie knew very well that it was him at a single glance.
"Greetings, people of Greenhorne! I have come to bring devastation on your poor excuse of a town!" The Sorcerer Mordegon said, the sound echoing through the entire town. No one tried to flee, for they were frozen with fear, and even if they tried, Mordegon would hold them in place with his magic. Valerie, however, was unfazed by his comment and stood her ground. She could have been very well brave or just plain silly when she did that.
"Say goodbye to your pitiful faces." Mordegon said as he waved his staff, and in a flash, Bolson let out a scream as his face flew up, Blossom panicked at the sight; only to have her face snatched as well. Ventus' face was taken from him too, much to Aqua's dismay. Taranza panicked and attempted to catch Joronia's flying face, but to no avail. Unexpectedly, Revali flew up to attempt to face the wizard. But his actions were proved useless as his face was snatched too, and he took a nasty fall.
"Hm. that should be sufficient for the time being. Now listen carefully, faceless mortals!" Mordegon belted with the sound of thunder. "Learn to live a life of despair, for that is what you are left with!"
"And as for those who have been spared.." he said, turning to the survivors.
"Take one last look at your poor little friends.. (he gestures to the faces he held captive) and DESPAIR! Hmhmhahahaha!"
Mordegon stared at Valerie with a burning hatred. He seems to remember the past, perhaps due to forbidden magic. He also seems to recognize the blank but determined look at Valerie's face, as it is familiar to an adversary he faced before. Mordegon disappeared in a cloud of black smoke.
The sky was dim and suffocating, and the survivors were in panic and despair. Valerie approaches Aqua, who is worrying over a now faceless Ventus.
"Ventus! No! Don't panic.. Don't panic.." Aqua said to herself, trembling. She soon found Valerie standing, thinking hard with her arms crossed, wondering what to do. "Adventurer!" Aqua called out. "Please! Help dear Ventus and the people here! I plead!"
Valerie closed her eyes. "..Alright." Valerie said in a stern yet determined voice. "Keep Ventus close, Aqua." As Valerie nearly set out before Aqua stopped her.
"And take this." Aqua passed her an odd necklace of a purple jewel with a closed yellow eye on it. "I found it buried near my house. It may be a good luck charm."
"As much as i don't believe in luck, thanks." Valerie said. And put on the necklace alongside the one she already had.
"I fear the Dark Lord lurks nearby.. you should start there." Aqua suggested.
"Thanks." Valerie said; then turned and set out for the outskirts of the town, unprepared. She looked at the necklace, wondering what's so special about it. though Valerie may recognize the people, her memory of Miitopia before was lost for reasons beyond explanation.
Aqua was perplexed by Valerie. She didn't know how Valerie knew her and Ventus' names. (Though if you read the last chapter, you'll know Ventus told her of their names.)
It was not long after when Valerie searched the outskirts of the village. Then Mordegon appeared to her. "Is someone trying to be the hero?" He teased.
"I don't care! Give their faces back! At least Ventus' face, if nothing else!" Valerie retorted.
Mordegon summoned Ventus' face and asked: "Oh, you mean this one?" Valerie nodded. But she knew it wasn't gonna be that easy.
"Hrrm. Perhaps i shall return this one back to you.. But you will have to earn it."
Then Mordegon waved his hands; and the shadow of a little hill began to take the form of a monster, making a big but faceless yellow slime appear. "Just how strong are you in a real fight?" Mordegon said.
"Ugh!" Valerie blurted out, realizing how unprepared she was. Mordegon commanded Ventus' face to fuse with the slime. And it made the same transformation the little pink butterfly did. Mordegon vanished without any more words.
Valerie took a step back, then tripped on a rock. The slime raised itself to attack, and Valerie quickly picked up a stick and swung it to defend herself. Then suddenly, Aqua's mysterious necklace started shining, blocking the slime and Valerie from one another like a wall of light. The light envelops Valerie, and then a voice began to speak to her.
