personal curriculums have recently taken tiktok by storm. although this may seem like just another fad, i think that this trend has the potential to uplift everyone’s life by allowing ourselves to learn more about our interests.
within the past year, i’ve observed that there has been a subtle trend of straying away from technology. i’ve seen this first with booktok, a community on tiktok dedicated to reading. now, personal curriculums and so called “analog bags” (curated bags that are filled with only items related to one’s hobby) seem to be the new trends created to combat against technology addiction.
personal curriculums, popularized by xparmesanprincessx on tiktok, consist of a personalized syllabus that one creates in order to learn more about their interests, similar to the kind that are present in traditional schools. many will give themselves assignments, which can include specific information about history, philosophy, anthropology, horticulture, etc. and assign themselves projects and tests accordingly. many students in their personal curriculums often source their information online (through platforms such as khan academy and skillshare) or from books that they assign themselves to read. students also go on “field trips” to local museums to learn more about their interests.
here is a basic example of a personal curriculum:
- penmanship 101
- creative writing
- social media marketing
- beginner french
although some may argue that this is nothing more than a social media trend that will eventually fall into irrelevancy, i believe that this paints a bigger picture, that people are tired of the overstimulation that social media often brings. i predict that as this sentiment continues, similar trends will only continue to follow.
Hey there.
I just wanted to let you all know that I am not going to be using this blog anymore other than for one or two random articles, perhaps. Instead, I started a new one. It is called Inkspression so do go there to read articles on various topics. I am going to add a few links below to make this easier for you.
Inkspression is all about my opinions and suggestions on various general topics…
I'm not taking about the apocalypse. Sorry guys. What I am referring to is my move. I'm tomorrow and Monday, and then I'll be back to full-time web series journalism. I cannot tell you how excited I am to get back to it. I've put off so many projects because of this move (both articles and reviews alike), and the excitement is simmering. I have a list of reviews I want to do on the sister site, both in terms of written and YouTube videos. I also have a whole wrack of interviews and articles to write up for the website (www.jessthepress.com). I'm really excited to start filming more response to things Web Series Awards Nominations, Melbourne WebFest, and other news in web series announcements, the IPF funding list. Now is the time! More updates will come as the developments unfold.
