C: Many MANY random thoughts about Carol and the End of the World (2023), Carol Kohl's sister Elena, and some random character that no effect on the story.

I now present the read/brainrot you have ever seen...
I'm obviously kidding, but I really need to place my thoughts somewhere without them being little scribbles on a sticky note. If any new fans far into the future find this... uh hai... i think the fandom died a really long time ago haha...
Back when cateotw was released, I truthfully didn't think about Elena as a character. I saw her as a means to foil her sister in the series. She's extravagant, boisterous, and extroverted, unlike her sister Carol. In some early scathing reviews of the episode, she is prominently featured in (Sisters), some say that her demeanor is extremely forceful and "too much" and that their bitter conflict is hard to watch.
At some points, I do agree. Despite growing up with Carol, she doesn't understand what her sister is truly like. Bernard and Pauline are a slight extension of this. They seem to have a complicated familial relationship even before Kep(p)ler.
Elena has always been painted as the adventurous one. Welcoming/inviting decor in their childhood bedroom, the numerous awards, photos with her friends, and even the damned conversation Carol has with their parents (that is supposed to be focused on Carol and living HER life) overshadows and showcases the identity Elena has. She has surpassed her sister in accolades and accomplishments, which a lot of people would notice.
On the other hand, Carol is the typical quiet kid putting her head down for others around her. She doesn't flaunt, talk about her line of work, or even her hobbies outside of The Distraction. Carol simply isn't memorable, even within her own story.
But despite all of this, that isn't fully the case for either of these characters. In that same episode, we fully get something that reveals what both truly think about their lives. Elena isn't satisfied with how she presents herself, often going with what others think. She has a certain moment within the same episode that explains this.
"I've never met anyone so sure of what they can and can't do. She always did her own thing. Do you know how hard that is? That's just so cool to me. I just do what everyone else does."

"Carol. [...] (I havent actually finished quoting the entire thing, but the spanish is kind of hard for me to write/understand, but the gist is driving the point home that she regrets that she didnt get to know carol that well)
