My Delusional Quest for the More Paul

This is a personal story not related to my usual work, i just need to ramble about guitars.

Here’s a quick skip :)

I believe that the ultimate guitar you could ever make would be an 8-string Les Paul shape. The most beautiful shape with the most powerful sound.

Les Paul:

8 String:

Slap some fishy moderns on the 8 String Les Paul and you are set for anything you could ever play. I began to search the internet for 8 string les pauls. Of course, you find the ESP LtD EC258, but I then stumbled into an old forum/blog/magazine/whatever post about the Ibanez ARZIR28. It looked magnificent. EMG active pickups, long scale length, les paul body and headstock, 8 strings. Straight scale. It was taken behind the shed in 2017 or so by Ibanez and shot. From that point onward, I’ve only found tracks.

Reverb. No listings.

Guitarguitar and Andertons. No listings.

An ad for a pre-owned one from Kenny’s Music, and an old ad for one on Gear4Music.

A ghost of a guitar.

I looked on EBAY and FUCKING GUMTREE.

NOTHING.

Only one I ever found was in ROUPEES.

And so the search continued for the More Paul.

I have found 2 candidates.

Ibanez ARZIR28, 27” straight scale, emg pickups. £1,200.

Agile AL3200MCC 828. 28” straight scale, in house agile pickups, £600 without shipping.

Do I:

1–Wait for the more playable, sexier Ibanez to become affordable, remembering they’re rarities from 2015 and have appreciates bigtime

2–get the cheaper Agile and try to ship it across the atlantic

3–stick with what I have and love it right until i can afford a more paul
