it’d been more of an effort to find harley than he anticipated it would be.

maybe that’s the point - she’s splintered off from the joker and has abandoned his brand of brazenness. he doesn’t believe she’d give that up entirely, the boldness, because that’s still her. that’s simply where they overlap. but her new - hideout? lair? - isn’t as loud as every base he’s confiscated from the joker. it’s not a fun house or a carousel or a house of mirrors.

but - it could be because she doesn’t want his attention, not yet.

after scouting the place for a few days, batman enters through the chimney. the humor of it isn’t lost on him, even when he barely avoids coughing up soot. waits for her to get back from wherever it is she happens to be to disarm the security system to truly catch her off guard.

while the outside isn’t as flashy as he expected, the interior is all harley. a gauche pink sofa, beads in place of a door to what looks like a kitchenette, with eclectic decorations that hang over the walls. blueprints, some weapons, other nick-knacks that could easily become projectiles if they’re not secretly explosives.

( and - hyenas? )

he jumps down from the catwalk above, cape billowing purposefully as her back remains to his to alert her that he’s there, and not for an ambush. said hyenas notice him the moment he shows himself from above, but they’re blessedly tethered by chains to their cages.

‘ - playing the hero, harley? ’ batman asks, and, to clarify, adds, ‘ sionis, zsasz. you’re on the map now. ’
