Burned Out

Mabel walked hesitantly along the side of the road. Her mind was awhirl with confusing thoughts. It had been so long since she had been outside, she could barely remember it. Walking hurt, and she had to stop every little bit to rest. The main question in her mind, however was why did he let her go? He had told her to leave, and she had obeyed. But she didn’t know where to go. She had vague memories of a life before Bill, but she couldn’t pull up any locations, far less how to get there. Part of her wanted to go back to Bill, but he ha dtold her to go and she had learned long ago what disobeying meant. So she had wandered until she found a found a road.
She knew she must look a mess. Bill didn’t give her any other clothing, so she was stained with old blood and she smelled awful. She had old aches all over, and was covered with scars. Several of the scars were triangular, with prominent ones on her hands and forehead. Most of her metal braces were gone, along with a couple of her teeth. Where one of her eyes had been was just a messy pit.
