moretti + what is his D&D alignment?
Oh, this is such an interesting question. Thank you so, so much for sending it in 😊 Moretti doesn’t appear often in the manga and he’s such a mystery, so it was really fun for me to stop and think about him, kind of try to flesh him out somewhat. I hope these headcanons, while short and small, are interesting to read, my lovely!
So, I knew right out the gate that I believe Moretti to be a neutral character on at least one of the two scales. He comes across, while working with CEDEF, to be someone who primarily does what he wants to do and what interests him. He does the missions he does because he’s good at them, yes, but also because it’s the work he enjoys doing. It’s not that he doesn’t care about CEDEF or the Vongola in general, but I think Moretti’s main priority and interest is himself. He’s not a bad guy. He’s not an unkind or unfriendly guy. He doesn’t lean evil by any means. But I don’t think he could actually be classified as true good either.
In terms of lawfulness, Moretti, to me, definitely is neutral. I don’t think Moretti’s main care is the tradition, rules, and order of the Mafia world. He got involved with the Mafia because he was born into it, because it makes good use of his skill, and because it’s what he knows. But he doesn’t really care about most of the major traditions. He doesn’t want to align himself fully with the Vongola, despite (in my headcanons) being born into the family. He aligns himself instead with CEDEF but even then, he’s not a true part of CEDEF either. Most of his CEDEF colleagues don’t really know about him and most have never seen him. He likes to kind of go and do his own thing, regardless of traditions, missions, and such. It’s not that he fails his missions, just that he wants the freedom to do them his own way.
Because this is kind of how I envision him, I think Moretti is also neutral in terms of morality. He’s not looking for the righteous way to do things. He doesn’t believe that all of his actions are the most just. But at the same time, he never intentionally seeks to do harm or cause suffering to others. When he does cause those things, it’s always a by-product, an unintentional side effect of what he feels he has to or wants to do. And that is what he prioritizes – what he wants to do. Again, Moretti’s main priority, I feel, is Moretti.
So, by default of both of the scales landing in the same spot, to me, Moretti is true neutral on the D&D alignment scale.
