#morningspin Brussels Affair (Live 1973) The Rolling Stones Rolling Stones Records 089 398-1 Released 2020 Included in the Goats Head Soup Super Deluxe Box Set After recording the Goats Head Soup album, the Stones toured Europe in 1973. The shows were recorded for the King Biscuit Flower Hour radio show. The broadcast was widely bootlegged and has been revered by Stones fans as the best live performance by the band ever recorded. The first official release was a download on Google Play Music available for a limited time in 2011. The band is in the groove while Mick Taylor’s lead guitar weaves in and out. Mick Jagger’s vocals are among his best. Charlie Watts is the usual brilliant. Keith Richards rhythm guitar propels the whole band into greatness. Special nod to Billy Preston on keyboards. The live version of Angie is stunning. The show closes with Street Fighting Man that is like a runaway train barreling down the track. If you need proof that the Stones were indeed (and still are) the world’s greatest rock and roll band, this is it.
