“Robbers Work Hard But It’s All In Vain,” Toronto Globe. July 13, 1932. Page 3. ---- Safes Empty in Two Places and No Money Is Obtained --- (Special Despatch to The Globe.) Ridgetown, July 12. - The Muirkirk branch of the Bank of Montreal was entered last evening and the safe blown. The local branch at Ridgetown states that no money was taken, since all the cash had been removed to the Highgate branch. The Muirkirk branch is open twice a week, being run by employees of the Highgate branch.
The Michigan Central Railway ticket office was entered early this morning, but the robbers were disappointed to find no loot. R. Talcott, local agent, stated no funds are left at the station now, due to the frequency the office has been broken into. County Constable R. Priestly investigated the robbery, and said entrance had been made by forcing up a window. A crowbar taken from a near-by toolhouse was used to open the windor and then returned to the toolhouse. The agent had left the safe door open to save any prospective robbers the trouble of blowing it open. Nothing further was disturbed after they found the safe was empty.
