I did this a couple years back for a Utah PRIDE event. I designed it with the trans experience in mind basing the butterfly off of Morpho helena. At the bottom is the caterpillar, it's body wrapped in periwinkle vines. This common flowering plant is of the genus Vinca, from Latin vincire meaning "to bind, fetter". This stage represents oppression and restriction. Near the middle, a chrysalis hangs from the vine, still bound, but changing. At last, at the top, is the butterfly, able to spread its wings and live freely.
I hope you enjoy this piece.
