✨ information update and bonus picture of Ophelia eating a fly on my thumb 😭💕 I can now confirm that the next website update will be on the 28th of April at either 6/7pm, I will confirm this once I’ve taken a vote on my stories to see what you would all prefer, so keep your eyes peeled for that! As well as the usual goodies and what not, I am also going to be giving the website an exciting revamp! Recently I made a mistake. A boo boo if you will. I didn’t listen to my gut, and here I am now about to confess, feeling a little embarrassed I may add! So recently I released the “tarantula hawk wasp” piece. Now I always do research and look up insects natural environments when making pieces, and I noticed something seemed off, as all the specimens I saw lacked the yellow strip across the thorax, well, it turns out my supplier had sent me Vespa tropica hornets instead, which is actually a predator of other wasps! But I was so flummoxed with getting things done for the update I didn’t persue it at the time. I also thought it was a little funny that the original post got quite a lot of attention but no one noticed or second guessed it either 😅 anyway, So on a better note, I now have preorders of ACTUAL tarantula hawk wasps available on the website, as well as some megascolia velutina ducais giant iridescent black wasps, and some Vespa greater banded hornets! For the time being I only have a set amount of each available. I have a couple of domes with Papilio lowi currently available, as well as one frame left too.. I must admit they’re one of my favourite species to work with, as they look fantastic is both frames and domes. Summer dreaming. This piece is probably my most difficult to photograph to date. I was really inspired to create a piece like this after paddling along the river and seeing countless damselflies and dragonflies last year. It was only as we moved slowly along the river that damselflies and dragonflies would then fill the sky, it was such a beautiful sight, and would highly recommend it if you have the opportunity. So based on that day I wanted to create a little slice of it, and I felt these treats worked perfectly for it. Finishing touches - I pride myself on the details and finishing touches on every piece I make. Especially with domes, I often spend too long trimming flowers to perfectly fill spaces. March meet the maker, better late than never right? Day 1&2 So I’ve always been a little reluctant to join in with these things, mainly due to my insecurities and lack of ability to post everyday, but here we are! So I started my venture some years ago now, as I was looking for something to keep my mind occupied whilst going through therapy. I had always adored insects and decided to throw myself into learning to pin. This obviously soon got way out of control and thus Jenna’s curio cabinet was born! I have always found pinning insects and even caring for them and rearing my own, has been rather cathartic. So to be able to make a small business out of it has literally been a dream come true.
