MORPHOLOGY Boiler Room at Heath SF | September 25, 2015

Something a little wild and crazy's been going upstairs at the Heath Clay Studio. Think glazes you'd never expect from Heath. Think forms barely large enough to fit in the kilns. Think Morphology. Think Brendan Monroe.  

Super talented Oakland-based painter, sculptor, and illustrator Brendan Monroe returns to Heath SF on September 25 for his first major solo show in the Bay Area. Morphology is a collection of new works (both 2D and 3D) exploring the shape of motion and materials in flux, assuming the distinct forms of unusual characters and surreal topography.

Morphology's near and dear to our heart. Over the course of the last year, Brendan worked with our clay and glazes onsite in the Heath Clay Studio, upstairs in our San Francisco location, pushing boundaries of scale, glaze, and imagination. Along the way, Heath Clay Studio Director Tung Chiang got inspired by his fearlessness, while Brendan learned a lot more about glazes and clay – and then broke all the rules. It's exactly what an artist should do.

I’ve been working most of this year at Heath Ceramics in San Francisco on an exhibition of new sculptures, paintings and murals. Mark your calendars, the show opens on September 25th, 2015. I’m really excited about the work coming out of the studio. This will be the first major solo show of my work in San Francisco.
