so beautiful how morris was having a normal week and then ze was sitting in a cafe letting one of zir clients practically cry on zir shoulder. and also that client is one of the bats. normal london things

i feel like morris could have an interesting (not necessarily 100% positive) relationship with april, considering both the shared disability aspect and also the revolutionary connections... obviously zir weird basically-anti-liberationist position would complicate matters. and also the fact that there's very few scenarios where ze'd be likely to meet her. but im still thinking about this

held by the image of morris removing zir long nails for delicate tasks. not as in fake nails - zir nails are as real as any other devil's - but like actually pulling the claws out and stashing them away somewhere. just fleshy fingers with a gap where the nail matrix should be. slide them back in afterwards. that seems correct

2 (What's your oc's orientation? Do they have opinions about it?) -

carrie - lesbian with many partners but no intent to ever officially marry. her current opinion is that it's a fun existence, but there was a lot of internal conflict about that + her gender earlier in her life (and external pressures even now)

elphinstone - most likely aromantic. i tend to call him 'ambiguously attractionless' because like... he still engages in relationships + intimacy, sometimes he does actively want someone, but it's hard to say how much/in what way. also, trauma. he chalks a lot of it up to being a soulless snuffer

morris - bisexual, pansexual, any term like that really. ze doesn't always experience attraction in the same way as a human but it's absolutely still a thing. thinks ze's pretty cool for that, although ze gets frustrated by human standards of romance/intimacy...

nayuhemat - possibly bi, definitely asexual. could be demiromantic? has experienced romantic attraction but remains unsure about traditional relationships, they've tried all that in several cities and it doesn't live up to expectations... and yet sometimes they still accept others' advances anyway just to check if they've changed. contemplating getting married to the zee

embroidered physician - aroace and deeply uninterested in romance or sex. thinks this makes them morally superior to other attraction-having snuffers

7 (Is there something that could cause your oc to question their identity? What?) - uhh idk? probably the usual unexpected crush/gender feelings but most of them have already questioned their identities.... i guess morris hasn't fully examined zir gender yet? but i'm not sure if just one particular thing would drive zir to question it or if it'd be a bunch of smaller pressures over time. hmm

🖤 (What’s the darkest “we’ll never tell anyone” thing they’ve done together?) - hmmm... most of their time together is itself a secret. but i think one thing that has to stay between them is just how many details of infernal death/rebirth elphinstone learnt from morris. there are some very particular bits of information that only a devil should know, and he got a first-hand look at why 🐝

💔 (What’s the one fight that almost ended them?) - this one is easy. the argument over elphinstone's decision to make the manager into a city (and, more precisely, cut furnace out of the arrangement) could have very easily been relationship-ending

..in fact, you could say it did put an end to their partnership -- they might have settled it to some degree, and they're still attached, but 'union-city leader + the owner of london's leasehold' is a pretty different dynamic from 'eccentric philosopher + his foremost patron'. the debates about all the fine details of prehistoricism aren't as pleasantly abstract anymore...

🔥 (What’s the pettiest thing they’ve ever argued about?) - honestly i think terminology is one of the main Petty Topics. carrie is pretty stubborn and has some specific (sometimes inconsistent) ideas on what should be deemed death + how the morality of it varies, which end up running up against the baroness's discussions of the lily-rites in... confusing ways. sometimes it's a genuine conflict in opinion, sometimes it's just about semantics

also probably carrie's interest in folklore and destiny. on the whole, i don't think the solicitor-baroness would be against carrie's beliefs/fascinations (she finds it endearing), but as an immortal devil she comes at it from a very different perspective that might agitate carrie. and she could definitely agitate her back... particularly when it comes to the unreliable mythology of the devil-saints (which to the baroness is more a matter of politics. again, vastly different perspectives)

not too many questions to answer ! but this might be a long one

38 (What is the most recurring theme in your OC's nightmares?) - i feel like, to strike a bit at zir core fears, morris has a lot of nightmares about being ignored... dreams where nobody understands zir, either unable to see zir or just constantly misunderstanding. ze also gets dreams of being buried alive but that's a little easier to cope with upon waking

32 (How does your OC handle rejection?) - with deep discomfort and a sense of anger at whoever rejected zir, no matter how trivial the matter was. that's not how things were Meant to go (in zir eyes)!

33 (How does your OC handle jealousy?) - honestly despite how possessive he can get (with the whole 'you Must continue to exist in Exactly the same state') i don't think elphinstone shows his jealousy that much? so he handles it by shoving it down. that said if he gets exactly the right opportunity he will act on that jealousy

46 (Does your OC carry any guilt with them?) - absolutely! but unless it's in regards to his family he's very likely to shove it down alongside that jealousy. he feels as much guilt for beechwood as for the big rat but you'll only hear him mourn for one of them...

47 (If your OC had to pick a new identity and skip town, what would they come up with? Where would they go?) - hmmm... well she's got some pretty identifiable features. i think she'd realise that and settle on the classic 'fake tomb-colonist' look instead. regular bandaged surgeon on a normal journey over to venderbight

9 (Describe a mundane day in your OC's life.) - hard to describe just one mundane day in carrie's life! there's a general structure but she keeps herself busy. sometimes too busy. a typical workday involves rising early, checking over her various creatures, and getting smaller tasks out of the way in the morning before working from late morning to late afternoon/early evening (on slower days that span of time might just be 'the time when people can call on/hire her in person for various tasks'. she can be found at the university or her brass embassy sanctum for most of it)

she typically expects to have time after that for socialising (and carousing, taking care of animals, working on personal projects, etc.), then a regular dinner + taking/applying medication in the evening. but being an expensive monster hunter (instead of just a pest controller with regular rounds) her hours can vary a lot... some hunts turn into multi-day zee-based affairs, sometimes a nuisance animal is just that much of a nuisance. again, it depends 🦇

ask game, i'm assuming these were for the same game at least haha

1 (What does your character's laugh sound like?) - carrie has a very high, breathy laugh, kind of bird-like! she has a habit of laughing when stressed/upset though... so she keeps it fairly quiet to avoid being misunderstood

2 (What does your character’s singing voice sound like?) - elphinstone's singing voice is.. probably a lot like his talking voice? but he has a tendency to use a higher pitch than usual when singing. would be straining it if he had human vocal cords. he's a fairly good singer, better at copying others than singing for himself though

10 (How does your character feel about people seeing them cry?) - humiliated mostly, morris is an obvious crier and not particularly pleased about it. that said in zir case crying mostly means 'buzzing loudly with some tears', zir problem is more with the pity that comes with others seeing it (and the difficulty of fine motor tasks when your whole body is vibrating)

15 (If your character had to get a (new) tattoo right now, what would it be?) - in-game tattoos aside, i think carrie would get a hellworm. she doesn't have the physical creature yet but a long fluffy worm around one leg would be, in her opinion, Very Cool (especially over the burn scars from hell's flowers!)

17 (What is your character's most unique physical attribute?) - honestly it's probably the rodent tail. there's plenty of hunters with peligin eyes, visible scars, weird teeth, etc. but tails seem to be a bit of a rarity among human londoners. she's mostly embarrassed by the fact that it is such a unique thing...
