Elizabeth Hamilton to Gouverneur Morris, 1804
My good Sir
I this day received your note. Tho I tremble least any accident should happen to that Infinitely Valuable Bust of my beloved husband, I cannot but comply with your request, and shall give the necessary permission to any Servant (?) for Mr. Morton’s Obtaining it.
I have been remiss in Omitting making you my Acknowledgments for the Affectionate Locutions which you so Eloquently bestowed on the Memory of my Dear departed husband on Saturday 14th but under the Load of affliction that I am, Omission I fear I shall have many to charge myself with. But let me request you to Impute this one to the suffering of my mind, and please to accept my thanks for your Remembrance of him who was and is so very dear to me.
With respect
E. Hamilton
My father is still unwell with the Gout
