“I know you’re in there!” Anakin blocked Obi-Wan’s lightsaber as it came down in an arc. “This isn’t your doing, Master!”

Obi-Wan disengaged from the lock their sabers were in and jumped back a few feet. “Anakin,” he sighed, rolling his yellow eyes. “I haven’t been your Master for years. And besides,” his mouth twisted into a scowl. “We both know I was not the one you wanted as your Master. We both know you wanted Qui-Gon. We both know you wished I had taken his place.” Obi-Wan growled and lunged at Anakin.

“Obi-Wan,” Anakin jumped out of the way. “You know that’s not true.”

“Oh?” Obi-Wan asked. “Do I?” Odd, I seemed to have missed that memo. I remember you telling your friends how badly you wished Qui-Gon was your teacher rather than me. I know what you thought of me. You cast my struggles aside in lieu of wishing for things that would not happen!”

Anakin blinked, confused at the things coming from Obi-Wan’s mouth. 

“You don’t know what I went through every day! I did everything I could to keep you under my care. You don’t know anything. I made sure you at least stayed in Qui-Gon’s lineage. I made sure you would not be taken in by a Master who only saw a prophecy rather than a child.” Obi-Wan snarled. “Masters sought you out, doing anything and everything to take you away. I went through so much pain to keep you safe. And you disregarded me without a second thought.”

Anakin...didn’t know what to think. He didn’t know if what Obi-Wan had said was true, or if it was the workings of the Son.

Anakin didn’t know what to think. The words Obi-Wan spewed roared through his head as they fought.

Then, the Son had tossed Obi-Wan to the side once he had no longer been needed and killed his sister. Anakin only had thoughts for Obi-Wan.

He held his Master’s cold body close. He dimly heard Ahsoka ask if there was anything the Father could do.

There was. The Daughter gave her life to Obi-Wan. And Anakin pulled his weakened back from the dead Master into his arms and sobbed.

Ahsoka lifted her comm as the voice of Obi-Wan came through. “Ahsoka, come in, please. Can you hear me? Ahsoka!”

“Yes, Master. Any success with Anakin?”

“No. Quite the opposite.” Cold dread settled in the pit of her stomach. What did that even mean?

“Master, what are you saying?”

“Anakin has joined with the Son.”
