Weekly #CanLit Roundup!

1. On Monday, Slackline, a new live-reading series, had their first event at Duffy’s Tavern.

2. Donations to our Morton Prize fund continued, with books received from Nightwood Editions and Brick Books. We are still receiving books to make up a huge book haul for our Fifth Annual Thomas Morton Memorial Prize in Literary Excellence. Deadline Sep 30th.

3. On Thursday, Coachhouse Books celebrated the beginning of the autumn season in style with their annual Wazgoose event. They barbequed, sold books and gave tours of their printing press in a well-attended event.

4. The Puritan launched Issue 34 - Summer 2016. The guest editors were novelist and short-story writer Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer and poet Dr. Sonnet L’Abbé. The issue is live and, as always, features some of the best poetry, essays, interviews, fiction, and non-fiction to be had this side of the Atlantic.

5. On Saturday, Words & Music Salon had another event at Vino Rosso, and was hosted by Glen Hornblast and Linda Stitt.

From our Puritan Archives today we have New Pastoral by Nathan Slinker, winner of the Second Annual Thomas Morton Memorial Prize for poetry, Nathan Slinker’s other poems have appeared in The Kenyon Review, Ninth Letter, and Hinchas de Poesia. He was chosen by Orion editor Jennifer Sahn as a 2013 Fishtrap Fellow. Nathan lives in Tempe, Arizona and is an M.F.A. candidate at Arizona State University. Submissions for this years’ 2016 Morton Prize are now open.
