It's actually not as bad as you'd think! My advice would be to check out YouTube, use chunky yarn and get a cable needle :)
That's actually exactly what I did! I mean, minus the "get a cable needle" part. Unfortunately I can't really afford the new distraction right now, so it'll probably be a few days before I'm able to get one and try it out.

i'm just trying to stay positive and be glad that a) i still get to go to france in a couple weeks and b) that if they do find something, i could be feeling a lot better soon(ish). that's the dream
