Can I just... hug Y'sheen and give him cookies? Also do you have any character building tips?
Of course! He would LOVE hugs and cookies! Thank you so much!
I am super flattered that you would ask me for tips! Not sure if I am the best person to ask, but I’ll try! One tip I have is to have a very clear idea of what you want your character to be! While it is true that you want your character to be a round character with many traits and depth, if you try to do too much at once then it’s easy to lose your focus. The characters I like best are ones that have a few very well-defined traits that make them memorable. You can even amplify those traits to extreme or ridiculous levels, within reason, as long as they don’t turn out to be a one-trick pony. (It kinda sucks when people ONLY see your character as the one who does X.) Those traits should factor into their design, the way they talk, and the way they act. I really like it when, after enough interaction, other people are able to pick up on those traits, extrapolate them, and accurately predict how that character might respond to a given sitaution. It makes it easier to headcanon with friends if your character isn’t totally unpredictable! Not to say that they should be an easy read though! It’s about balance and consistency!
Another tip I have, which stems from art and designing characters, but could also be used for making FFXIV characters, is to have a consistent “theme” or look to them. That’s not to say that they should only wear one outfit (but that is also a viable option). It’s a pretty good feeling when people are able to recognize your character even when they are dressed differently, style their hair differently, or are drawn in a different style. Maybe they always wear certain colour schemes or all their attire is themed after an animal. Perhaps they always wear armour a certain way or they always dress for a certain type of weather. Or maybe they have a certain unique accessory or marking that makes them identifiable!
The FFXIV character creation is limited, but there’s still so much you can do with it and with the glamour system too. Find something that works for you and have fun! The sky’s the limit when it comes to your imagination! Hope that helps a bit!
