Day 10: Most Disliked Character and Why

And now for something completely different. The last nine days have been nothing but talk about all the things I absolutely love in One Piece. From my favourite characters and favourite arcs to my favourite islands, which was really fun to explore. For today's challenge, though, we got to talk about one of those characters who are not part of the hype. Surely, with all those amazing characters in an anime as wild and colourful as One Piece, there is bound to be a character that stands out as one of the most annoying, dislikeable character around.

Now, most characters in the series are well-written, and some of these are supposed to be annoying and completely dislikeable, to the point that if they weren't, they would be doing it wrong.

I think that today's character is one of those cases. Among today's nominated are characters such as Trebol, St. Charlos the Celestial Dragon, Spandam, Foxy and Vergo. All five of them are really good candidates that fall into that category, although for different reasons. But one of the most despicable characters of these is Spandam.

The idiotic and cowardly former 'leader' of CP9, now working under CP0, who captured Nico Robin in Water 7 and brought her to Enies Lobby for her 'judgment' is one of those characters you just can't help but despise . Caring only for his own life and promotion, he is the kind of character who believes the ends justifies the means to get what he wants. He seems to have no qualms whatsoever with lying, manipulating backstabbing, exploitation to make things go his way, all the while believing in the idea of absolute justice, conveyed by Admiral Sakazuki, aka Akainu. The main difference between Spandam and the latter is that Spandam hides behind the stronger powers such as Lucci, behaving like he is the high and mighty leader, while Akainu himself is a powerful, capable reliable force, although extreme and dogmatic.

Another despicable aspect of Spandam's disagreeable character is his sadistic nature when he is in control. From his role in Franky's backstory, where he framed him, Iceburg and their master shipwright Tom for an attack on Water 7 and sent Tom to his death to his vicious abuse of a defenceless Nico Robin during the Enies Lobby arc and planning to exploit her and Franky in order attain the Pluton, Spandam is easily one of the most despicable villains in One Piece.

Heh. I just answered this in a pervious ask, so I’m going to cheat and copy and paste. XD Sorry anon lol.

I suppose if I had to pick someone, I’d have to say Shippou, but ONLY because he annoys me most of the time. Sometimes I think his presence is purely for comic relief, and I hate how he purposely targets Inuyasha just to get Kagome to sit him (in A LOT OF FANFICS), but other than that I tolerate him lol. Sorry Shippou lovers. He’s alright, but he’s also a pest.

Honesty hour: most disliked character in twd out of the current main characters and why?

OOO! I had to think for a minute because Rick’s current behavior is really exasperating to watch but he’s Rick so that plot line will eventually (hopefully) make it’s way back to a more balanced space. And while I’m not even remotely a fan of Jessie and feel really strongly about about her complete lack of empathy for Sam her shortcomings are what they are and I could still probably find something redeemable about her. Which is why most dislikable goes to Father Gabriel.

He jeopardized Team Family and himself not once but several times. I actively blame him for Bob being bit and while I can respect the fact that he was guilt and grief stricken over the walker he saw during that supply run instead of moving past it these demons only got worse to the point that he literally lead an entire herd from the school back to the church where helpless baby Judith was!

And then as a means to an end he puts Team Family in extreme jeopardy by opening his mouth to Deanna and for what purpose? Without Rick he would have died on that rock ledge and certainly never made it to Alexandria. I get that he’s questioning his own faith and doesn’t believe he belongs there either but then as if to highlight that point he can’t even commit suicide by walker-properly. Which is fine, he like many characters before him choose to live at that moment but then in his self-absorption he forgets to lock the gate and he’s really lucky that it was Rick who noticed and not some random inept Alexandrian who would have essentially caused more walkers.

But the thing that gets me the most is the position he put Sasha in. He wanted her to kill him because he felt like he deserved it and now knew he couldn’t do it himself but he seriously didn’t seem to care what that would to do Sasha, why Sasha was acting out. And then he and Maggie and Sasha all had that nice little prayer circle and suddenly everything was fine.

He has less to offer the group than Eugene, who at least openly admits to being a coward but is also actually smart. Carol was right to turn a blind eye when he was being attacked in JSS. It’s not that every person needs to offer something but the members of Team Family genuinely care about each other and Father Gabriel cares only about himself but his self-preservation puts others in danger.

And if he’s sticking around he better do something really fucking spectacular because he is top of my shit list and I do not care for whatever redemption arc he’ll probably get because he doesn’t deserve it. He could marry Daryl and Carol and I would still want to see him decked a couple of times.

From Freddie Lounds to Jack Crawford (NBC Hannibal)

This post will not be kind to either Freddie Lounds or Jack Crawford (for the most part). Because of this I have used the tags "Freddie Lounds hate" and "Jack Crawford hate" (I did NOT use the tags "Freddie Lounds" or "Jack Crawford" so they won't end up on those tags). If I ever talk shit about them on another post I will use those tags again.

I will give pats on the backs to them when I feel they deserve it, but  this post will not be praising them, for the most part.

Freddie Lounds started off as my least favorite character on Hannibal. I think part of the reason for that was that Will Graham (who I empathize with a lot) doesn't like her and bloggers that do things she does just annoy me to no end.

Freddie is not afraid to do anything to get a story. She even goes to crime scenes and contaminates them. Just for the sake of a story! This shows she doesn't care jack shit about justice. She just wants to go on with her tabloid journalism.

I am always happy whenever there's a scene that shows Freddie being disturbed when she's in the way of a killer. Such as when a former police officer was killed right in front of her and later with Gideon.

For the majority of the first season I thought of her as a stupid tabloid journalist that was annoying in each scene she was in (I had to think of a certain scene from Red Dragon to calm me down).

But later on in the season my views on her changed. I am not in love with Freddie by any means (well...except for her hair), but she proved she wasn't as dumb as I thought she was.

Freddie was one of the few people that could see through Abigail's disguise (in my not so humble opinion: Freddie knew the truth from the beginning) and used her lovely demeanor to fool Abigail.

So that little bit of genius makes me not able to hate her like I did at the beginning of the series. And it seems her and Will will be compatriots in Season 2 (if I have read the spoilers correctly).

Now Jack Crawford went though the opposite evolution than Freddie Lounds did, at least for me. I liked him in the beginning. Hell, he is played by Laurence Fishburne for crying out loud!

He is the one who is obsessed with catching the Chesapeake Killer. So much that Miriam Lass died and Will Graham is going crazy. But none of his actions (until the Finale) got to me. None made me so angry as to compare to Will's dying sanity.

For the majority of Season 1, Jack always had a part that made me not hate him. That made me like him. That made me want all good things in Heaven and Earth to happen to him. I liked him and was cheering him on.

Then the finale came...and now I hate his guts.

Jack and Will seemed to have a good friendship. A friendship where they trusted each other. So when Will says he suspects he's been framed and that the real killer is still on the loose I expected Jack to trust him. Not only does Jack not trust Will, he gets angry when Will points out why Will can't be the killer.

So the fact that Jack doesn't trust a man he should made me angry. But it wasn't until close to the end that I totally lost my shit and respect for Jack.

In the finale Will was ready to shoot Hannibal. Will had figured it all out and was willing to murder to keep others safe. Killing, for Will, is a very taxing thing on his psyche. So when he decides to kill it is always with the deepest of regrets and the strongest of convictions. Before Will could kill Hannibal, and save countless lives, Jack shoots him.

Yes, Jack does it just to injure will, but now Will is behind bars and Hannibal is walking free. Now the only one who has it all figured out will be challenged mentally by the killer and an incompetent doctor.

So fuck you, Jack, for not trusting Will and letting the killer you so desperately seek walk away as an innocent person.

I hope that I can regain some faith in Jack, as there seems to be some hope from Season 2 spoilers.
