The path winding back to the Nest slowly emerges beneath our feet. Moonlight rains down on us as we leave the shadow of the canopy. Jaxon slows. His head tips back, gaze traveling skyward.

“Does it hurt?” He spares me a glance. “When you, you know, go to look like other people.”

I wonder how many times I’ll be surprised by the questions any of my friends decide to ask before I remember I have no precedent for this. I shake my head.

“I don’t really feel anything. Not anymore.”

“I did—I do.” Her brow furrows as her hand curls at her side. She crosses her arms, looking me over. “But how are you doing?”

“I’m alright. Clearly slept well enough to not notice you leave.”

Vanya shakes her head. “I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about the Spider.”

I frown. “What about them?”

And then she hesitates. Her tongue pokes the inside of her cheek, but she doesn’t look away, gaze trained solely on me. “What was it you gave up for me?”

My own gaze falls under the weight of hers. The only other person who knows about my missing memories is Ellery, revealed one night over too many glasses of wine.

but the first draft of Mothlight is finished at 107k words. which is. wow /pos

i’m taking the rest of February as a break before diving back in for the second draft. i have a list of things i want to fix or add and am. very excited about it
