MOTHMANLAND: A LONELY ROAD IN THE TNT AREA - A long and lonely road cuts through the McClintic Wildlife Management Area near Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Commonly called the “TNT Area,” McClintic is a rural, wooded swamp which housed the former West Virginia Ordinance Works - a production facility that manufactured and stored trinitrotoluene (TNT) until 1945 (and was used to house other toxic materials in subsequent decades). Some of the grown-over storage "igloos" that line this area still contain explosive and poisonous materials and the land/water/wildlife here is deemed to be toxic. It is in, and around, this area that many of the strange encounters with the ominous flying monster known as "The Mothman" are alleged to have occurred beginning in 1966 and continuing throughout much of '67. Many believe that this area was the mysterious flying creature's lair or, that from here, was spawned a mutant monster that took flight from these toxic and polluted swamps. MOTHMANLAND - Remains of an old, abandoned facility in the toxic TNT Area (the McClintic Wildlife Management Area) outside of Point Pleasant, West Virginia. It was near here - on the evening of November 15, 1966 - where the first Mothman encounter took place (the Scarberry/Millette Encounter). Some believe that the polluted swampland in this area was the home - or perhaps even the birthplace - of the Monstrous Mothman. Sightings of the bizarre flying creature would continue for the next 13 months, ending with the tragic collapse of Point Pleasant's Silver Bridge. INSIDE THE MOTHMAN MUSEUM - Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Diane Huntington checks out the numerous artifacts, clippings, documents, and memorabilia related to the people and events involving the weird cryptid creature known as "The Mothman" at The World's Only Mothman Museum in Point Pleasant - the town near where the bizarre encounters and occurrences took place 50 years ago. This unique museum was the place to be, and the center of activity, during our visit to the 15th Annual Mothman Festival. Thousands attend this fun celebration each year to help benefit the town and to explore it's fascinating (and strange) history.
