6. best DM you’ve ever had?

technically he was a GM because we weren’t playing DnD, but i had the most WONDERFUL GM during my semester in Edinburgh. he had designed the entire system we were playing. he had written the whole setting, which was an extremely cool world of floating islands and airships. he managed to give the campaign a very neat episodic feel that gradually turned more and more into one interconnected story. he was just VERY good at story design, and he was the one who introduced me to the real POSSIBILITES that ttrpgs held and launched me from it being a casual hobby into it being my full-blown obsession.

12. how long have you been playing dnd for?

i’ve been playing tabletop rpgs for about 10 years, dnd for about four years, and fifth edition only since summer 2018, which is WILD because it feels like MUCH longer!

for the cr ask meme 💕 - favourite cr show other than the campaign 💪 - favourite battle

Favorite CR show: does Talks Machina count? I actually like it when it’s less chaotic and gets kind of serious while still full of bad jokes, but as a completist and nerd I love getting extra insight and metacommentary about the show. If that doesn’t count, probably Undeadwood. (note: I haven’t watched Critter Hug, Pub Draw, or MAME Drop).

Favorite Battle: Chantry of the Dawn fight. If you count that as two or three fights, the first one (main sanctuary with Cardinal Respa, The Laughing Hand, and Pumat there) but the whole thing is great.

it has now been ten years (ten years!) since I left Ireland, and rather than getting easier I feel the ache of it in my very soul more and more each year. Ireland is inescapable -- not that I would ever want to escape, and I didn’t leave to escape Ireland -- and it’s almost like the longer I’m away, the stronger its pull on me becomes. it feels like I’m being drawn back, and I know that one day I will go back, and I am very much looking forward to it.

I’m used to moving around. I’m a third culture kid with no actual hometown to speak of; I moved constantly as a child and well into adulthood, too. as a result, i’m kind of a mishmash of cultures and influences and accents, and I’m used to being a kind of chameleon. however, out of it all, Ireland has had the strongest influence on me; other accents have faded, other cultures have faded, becoming distant memories and trivia, or something I can slip back on when I need to. Ireland has remained a constant, and as seems to be the theme, it grows stronger all the time. I never lost my accent, even if I can perfectly mimic others. I never lost my culture. I never lost the music, the history, the folklore. in fact, it seems to be growing ever clearer. the accent never left but it seems to be growing stronger by the day; long-buried slang is coming out of my mouth before I can think about it. it’s like something has woken up inside me and is demanding to be felt.

if somebody asked me for a hometown, I would say London. I could go on and on and on about that city and what it means to me -- but London has always been an international city. from the moment its history began, it’s adopted the lost and the directionless and the stateless and the displaced. it makes sense, that I would feel that way. but if you asked me -- at any point in my life -- what I am? that answer would have always been easy: Irish.
