It was another day of barely holding it together. It was one of many days you've had where you feel like the world is just too loud and busy for you to think properly. Like everything around you feels heavy and you can barely bring yourself to leave your house. You had had so many of those days, and even though you've been so used to days like this, it never felt like anything was getting easier.
You felt like your life was mundane, like the daytime held no excitement for you, it was just the same thing everyday; get up, go to work, lunch, work some more, go home. Your life was by no means terrible, but hadn't imagined your life would be this hard. Maybe it was because all the plans you had made in your head never happened, your career plan had not worked out, your working a job you can't stand just to afford rent in an apartment NO ONE should be made to live in. You couldn't help but feel a little cheated in life, you hated that nothing you planned had worked out.
It was finally eleven pm, time to leave work. And thank god, you didn't know how much longer you could cope on the shop floor. It wasnt that you disliked your work colleges, infact, they were all nice people. It was you, you just couldn't find the strength to try and put on a happy face and socialise with them for long.
The train arrives at the platform and you make your way to an empty seat, setting your bag down and pulling out your music player, a soft melody fills your ears as the train jutters forward and you watch out the window as the night time scenery passes by. It would only take thirty minutes to get home, and you couldn't wait for midnight. It was the one time of the day where you can finally relax, when all your stress and gloomy thoughts of what if and why not melt away.
PAGE BREAK
You kick off your shoes in the doorway and throw your jacket on the sofa as quietly as you can. The light of the table lamp basking the hallway in a soft amber glow. The apartment isn't great, there's so many problems that need fixing; the leaky taps, the broken tiles in the bathroom, the broken heater. So many problems, but you make the most of it when it's all you could afford. The little things made it home enough for a sense of comfort to wash over you at the end of a tough day.
Making your way to your bedroom after getting ready to sleep, you crawl under the soft blankets, the fairy lights around the bed shimmering softly. You stare up at the ceiling, the final mellow thought of the day making their way into your mind, you thought about everything that you did today, and your thoughts of the day, and you couldn't help but criticise everything. You close your eyes as you breathe in deeply, trying to clear your head, when the bed dips on your side as he shifts his weight to wrap his arm around you, the sleepiness is heavy in his tone of voice as he mutters drowsily.
“Welcome home love”
You exhale slowly, his arms almost pushing the breath out of you, along with your negative thoughts.
“Are you alright? How was today?”
He always wanted to know how your day was, Jin knew how much pressure you put on yourself day to day, and you knew how much he tried to make you happy. But of course your head had to make you feel like you didn't deserve him or his efforts to help you through the bad days.
“It was.. It was ok.. Some hiccups but i got through it enough, I'm just glad to be in home now”
You cuddle into Jin's side, his face resting on the crown of your head as he breathes in the scent of your hair. Jins arms always felt like they were grounding you in your times of doubt and self loathing.
“That's right love, your home, you can unwind. It's almost midnight, it's the weekend. It's gonna be a new day and I'm gonna make sure your happy love”
He squeezed you softly, planting a meaningful but sleepy kiss on your forehead. God you loved him.
“.....I'm glad I have you Jin”
“Shhh, sleepy”
It only took around ten minutes but when you look up to Jin's face, his eyes are already closed and his soft snoring has started up again. You went to sleep with a contented smile on your face. Your life might not have turned out the way you planned, and you might have a hard time keeping the bad thoughts at bay. But when you come home, and midnight hits, you feel more at peace in Jin's arms than you have been in a long while.
