Moundo's like one of those guys who's a mound of something. You know? Like when you meet a guy who's a mound of melting-but-not-entirely-liquid cheese, or a mound of raw flour? That genre of guy. Moundo is a mound of Rock, which is one of the least amorphous kinds of mound guy... how does this affect his performance? His career trajectory? Let's see what this mound, brings to town! d
He's a big rock. You know what he does. He tries to crush protagonists! There have been some small rocks in Kirby, such as Rocky. Some medium rocks, such as the somewhat-misleadingly-named Giant Rocky, who is smaller than Moundo. Moundo is just a big rock, and that's great! He's grumpy, because he's a bad guy, and they have to be grumpy to show that it's acceptable to hurt them.
Moundo is such a funny name! He is a mound, isn't he? Yeah. Well his Japanese name translates to MOUNDEATH. It's quite a name! But I think Moundo suits him just fine. Of course, he is more than just a mere mound, with his striped headband, his frosted tips that looks like snowy peaks, and his sandals. He runs in his sandals! Don't do that. Speaking of his sandals, it's a bit odd his feet are yellow, isn't it? Almost as if his skin is naturally yellow, and the rocky exterior is just a disguise... let's just say he's not named MounD'OH for nothing!
Now THIS is Blocky. Blocky has a more interesting history than Moundo, he's gotten up to plenty more funny doings, but this isn't Blocky's post. Blocky has plenty, and Moundo has little. Blocky appeared a bit in the early days of the series, and then stopped appearing, with there being no Stone mid-boss until Moundo! Big rock fellas were back on the menu... and then Blocky made a triumphant return in Triple Deluxe, replacing Moundo, and becoming a series mainstay. Moundo only ever got to appear again when his debut game was remade. Poor pile of polygons!
Could the more powerful Moundo EX dethrone Blocky...? It doesn't matter because there's Blocky DX. Moundo gets nothing... though the black-and-yellow headband on Moundo EX is pretty cool! Predators won't try to attack him, because they'll mistake him for a wet floor sign!
Well, it is not quite true to say Moundo gets NOTHING. Look! Kirby wearing Moundo EX's headband! The Stone Chocolate in Dream Buffet has a similar color scheme to Moundo EX, too! Maybe there is always hope! Even if you feel like little more than a mound, someone out there keeps you fondly in their memory!
