Mount Spokane, Washington
2018, Sept. 28. We drove to Mount Spokane State Park to do some walking, and took in the views from the 5,883’ summit (the highest in Spokane County). One of Washington’s largest state parks, Mount Spokane has 100 miles of trails in the Selkirk Mountains. During the winter, the mountain is a popular skiing destination. Today’s clear sky and good conditions allowed for excellent views of the mountain ranges to the north and east, and the valley areas to the south and west. The air was brisk...temperature in the mid 50s...about 20 degrees cooler than the valley bellow.

Although I have seen it countless times, I have never visited Mt. Spokane which dominates the northeastern skyline of the city. Must correct that someday soon.

The Cobbled Crown of a Colossus
This beautiful stone cabin is called the Vista House. It resides at the peak of Mt. Spokane as a tribute to the Civilian Conservation Corps stone masons of the 1930s. It looks to function as a public house for hosting lunches and the like nowadays. Peaceful place. The clouds are excellent neighbors.
Mount Spokane Aurora by Craig Goodwin Via Flickr: Here's another comp from a recent outing at Mount Spokane. This looks directly at the face of the house, instead of the slight offset of the previous shot. I like the depth of the other composition but the symmetry in this one is nice.
