Image demonstrates Yabusame, the Japanese Martial Art of mounted archery.
Two or three years ago at this point I broke my ankle at a competition. Stepped in a hole while dismounting and yada yada yada. The competition was $375 and I spent $150 in gas to get there so fuck me if I wasn't going to compete, right?
Duct taped the fucker and splinted it with a broken arrow, changed my boots to some Tabi's for more ankle support, and came in 4th even though I couldn't really position correctly for the back shot.
Anyway
That shits hurting now too but I finally have more pictures from the first ever Hunt at Bow Creek
Onion and I were matchy matchy with our purple duct tape and bridle 😂 she's my purple girl
My ancestors trying out mounted archery: "So first we get to stab people from far away, then we get to run them over on horses. This is gonna be lit!"

I hope you enjoy, 🥽. :) I had a lot of fun making this, and was very happy to find the mounted archery gifs.
Sakura Yabusame by Aomori Japan
Yabusame is a traditional martial arts of mounted archery which started during the Heian Period, a time when the first female Samurai, Tomoe Gozen, was first known and recorded in history.
Sakura Yabusame is a special event for female archers only which takes place during spring, where women in kimonos ride horses at full speed under the sakura and shoot their targets.
Sometimes I fly 900+ miles and do cool shit (AND get to ride my friend’s AMAZING horse)
