They had overcame many obstacles while being together, her putting up with the constant worry that he wouldn't come home was one of the main reasons, the worry that he would never get to see a child that they conceived together grace the earth, and scared to death she would never get to hold him again. His worrying was that he would come home and she would be gone her father finally convincing her that he wasn't worth waiting on.
As he paced the living area though, ring in his hand he had never been more sure of anything before. Recently returning from a mission, he wanted to surprise her having made the Captain promise not to mention anything though cruel in a manner of speaking he had something planned and he wanted it to be perfect.
It was something he had been battling over for a few years now, saving up just the right amount of funds in order to buy the ring. Though it wasn't per say the most expensive ring he wanted to get, it was all the thought that he put into actually getting down on one knee and asking her to be his for the rest of their lives. Marriage had never been a big thing on his mind, simply because it scared him with his job; he didn't want to get married and then die because of how badly it would hurt her in the end.
They had discussed marriage, kids, and what would happen if something did happen to him. He always would end the conversation with 'some day soon, we'll leave these walls and I'll build you a house. I'll be the best father to our children, and we'll not have to live in fear anymore.' she would always smile and kiss him, never objecting to anything he said.
All he had to do now was wait for her to get back from her morning walk, this was when she bought food for the week and even plucked a flower keeping them all by the window in the kitchen to remind her of him; remembrance of the first time he gave her a single daisy.
Slipping the ring into the breast pocket of his uniform, he tried to keep his hands from shaking as he paced the room. For Gods sake he was an elite soldier, he could easily taken down a titan without another thought, but this was going to decide his future. So badly did he want her to take his last name, a perfect ceremony that all of his friends and family could attend where they shared proof of their love for each other; proof of the eternal bond they shared.
