          as much as i finds solace and peace in his journeys outside the farm, he finds himself anxious to get cleaned up rather quickly. he remembers the first time he realized he could really truly bathe here. he’d gotten a little to used to only having lakes and rivers. it’s not something of which he wishes to return. a sigh of contentment escapes him as he stands beneath the stream of water. he isn’t quite sure when this place started feeling this much like home. but it does. 

he senses mia before she even enters. brows lift a touch when the curtains are pulled back just enough for her to step into the shower. a smile tugs at his emil’s lips and he reaches out a hand to cup her jaw. leaning down, he meets her lips with a welcoming kiss.   “  you miss me that much? or are you just using me for the warm water.  ”

❝  then what’s it about?  ❞   he snaps back,  but he doesn’t mean to.  the thought of killing is so haunting to him  ---  no matter what he and his siblings had done as kids  (  at least that was under the guise that they were saving the world;  he could deal with it that way  ----  but is that right?  is it fair?  )  he wants to be the good guy,  but as he gets older,  he has more and more trouble defining that line.  if he was destined to save the world,  and his attempt at doing so caused so much destruction in the process,  then who was he,  really?  

❝  why do you do it?  isn’t there another way?  ❞   luther is naive,  but not this much  ---  he knows why.  he knows it’s not always possible to save everyone.  he just doesn’t know how to face that himself.

          of all the things he has ever done in his life, this feels the hardest. nerves knot in the pit of his stomach and doubts cloud his mind. it’s been months since he has seen any of them. long enough for him to wonder if their loyalties still even have ties to him. long enough to wonder if he remembers their nature of their characters to be as good as he thinks or if maybe he idealized it. but this isn’t about him. it’s about saige. he has to try at least. she doesn’t deserve a life on the run, hiding and always looking over her shoulder. he can’t do that to her. and so he is here, heart hammering wildly in his chest as he knocks on jj’s door. it feels wrong coming to her home, but he can’t trust his ability to go into any government buildings right now. 

the door swings open and he thanks his goddamn stars she is the one who answers  “  hey...can we talk?  ”

          there are some things about the world now that are beautiful. this is one of them. without light pollution to cloud the skies, the nights are full of stars and nebulas. it’s a breathtaking sight and he’s glad he can share it with her.   “  can’t remember the last time i watched a meteor shower,  ”  he comments quietly from where he lays beside her. if their reality is good for anything, it’s reminding them to slow down. to appreciate everything around them. everyone around them. his hand rests atop one of hers, fiddling with her fingers absentmindedly as his gaze sweeps over the night sky. being thankful for the end of the world seems like such a strange and selfish thing. but every day he feels like he finds himself finding reasons to be grateful. how could he not when it brought him freedom? when it led him to her?  head turns towards mia when he speaks with a slight smile  “  you gonna make a wish or what?  ”

         it’s always hot and cold with her. and for the most part, he gets it. he doesn’t mind. he doesn’t need her to open up to him to understand how she feels, to know why she often remains closed off. but, it can often leave him on his toes, uncertain what to expect from her, unable to predict her. it both draws him in and frustrates him all at once. he is used to being one step ahead with most people. but then it’s just that. she’s not a target or a puzzle to solve. she’s a person. and he tries to tell himself he doesn’t need to be able to know her every decision and move ahead of time. even if he wishes he could. 

this is one of those instances which takes him off guard. he was already preparing to get out of bed, to be the one to leave this time so she didn’t have to make up some half-assed excuse. emils sits up slightly, leaning his weight on a forearm as he turns his gaze to mia. brows draw together slightly in a moment of uncertainty, then he simply nods. there’s a strange warmth at the thought of her wanting him. of her wanting him to stay, to be more than a warm body or a friend to fuck. leaning over, he presses his lips to mia’s in a small caress. a quiet murmur  “  okay.  ”
